Ill be starting a budget build with an auto S14 soon, looking for help with affordable, durable parts, being a college kid with build plans and little money sucks, but it is what it is. Right now the S14 is stock aside from tein stech lowering springs, tokico blues, and a 3 inch exhaust, dont know who its made by. Planning on just making a clean manual DET and since it's my first real build any ideas are appreciated.

I learned the hard way BUDGET+240sx+COLLEGE=crap or atleast feels like it. Make sure to plan way ahead financially. But when you do get stuff together, do the basic t25 setup and move your way up. KA with t25 feels pretty good, and plus you can get t25's for super cheap and manifolds you can get from anywhere

Suspension before power. You can go a long way with stock dual cam and good suspension.

Buy Matt's ka-t race setup

Then buy some coilovers and suspension crap

And rape the world in one foul swoop

Point of the car? Drift, Drag, Just for fun? Do something unheard of and keep the car automatic and still boost it! push the limits of the tranny until you find it..then report back here and tell us. Then go manual or replace the Auto tranny as you see fit.

the only limitations of auto transmissions is when they break, I would kill to have an automatic awesome car though, purpose clutches fucking suck driving on the street.

the trans thats in it now is shot and i love manual so it seems right to do the swap, building it mostly just to drive around the streets, I autocross so i'll take it there a few times but not expecting to beat many people at all, just do it for the fun of it. JDM gauge cluster going into it

Good choice on the JDM gauge cluster yo!

Is this thread for real? If so, why would it be in the tech section? Isn't this for asking/answering technical questions??? Like how to do a 5 speed swap and get rid of the busted auto trans this guy has??? Seriously, go get a job, do some research, and figure out what you want to do. THEN after you have done this and have some money, start a thread in the Chat section (or somewhere more appropriate than here) and talk about what your doing, as your doing it (with pics, cuz most people here won't read much of what you have to say, they just wanna see stuff). I think its at least twice a week now somebody posts in the tech section saying "what should i do to my car, it's a piece of shit, i have no money, don't know anything about it, it's my daily, i'm gonna autocross/drift it on the weekends, oh and I have no job". This is getting old. I'm sorry. Nothing against you personally, your obviously very new to this.

Like any car, its going to be expensive as hell.

First off, manual convert that breezy, if you dont know how to do it look it up here there should be a few writeups its pretty straight forward and if you do it yourself not that expensive.

THEN!
Suspension before power. You can go a long way with stock dual cam and good suspension.
Like he said.

Get some more power with a small turbo......

And then realize this.

Good luck though, honestly its pretty fun to build an S chassis, expensive but fun. Kind of..
