i am in the process of trying to make up my mind what would be better. i have about 3500. that is enought to get a slivia front clip. or shoudl i take that money and buy a turbo for the ka24de. my motor has about 75k miles. i already have a act clutch in it and it won't work in the sr20. help me i don't know much about turbos but i want to learn. manly i want the most power for the dollar.

the SR will be more bang for your buck, and less hassle. but if you want a big project, KA isn't a bad way too go. if i wanted an engine project i'd tune a 4age, but i don't right now, so i'm going SR. just do a little bit more research and you'll be able to make up your own mind. don't let people tell you what to do.

who says sr's are bang for your buck? thats just an opinion. statements like that will cause flamewars. 3500 is good for maybe pistons, rods, turbo, manifold, and a decent fuel system upgrade. 3500 will not get you an sr swap. it will get you the clip and some required parts, but not all the way there.

3500 is not nearly enough to swap in an sr. plan on having at least 5k if you have hook ups. if you are just swapping everything over and hoping a motor that sat in the japan's junkyards for 10yrs will run fine, then go for it. at the very least, you will have to buy a fuel pump, guages, and maybe an exhaust. dont forget replacement gaskets and fluids.

if u got 3.5k then then KAT is the way to go, 3.5 will get u just the sr.

i knew someone who blew 12k on the sr to get 370 to the wheels

i think with 3.5 u can get around 240 i think Nsport has a turbo kit

all up to you and what u wanna do, the SR is a more capable turbo engine

the KAT is capable also though

i was like. wtf, when you said the sr is a more capable turbo engine. but then you said the ka is capable also. can you tell me what makes the sr more capable though? because it came turboed from the factory? big deal. you can change ka pistons and rods to have turbo specs.

with 3.5 i would get a turbo kit too. thats a good suggestion. but for me, i would want to upgrade pistons and rods on a ka. i dont know why, but its jsut me. i think i have an uneasy feeling running boost on 9.5:1 compresstion stock ka pistons.

Before considering what will give you "more bang for the buck" or more horsepower you have to think "hassle". Which will be less of a hassle? SR or KA-T. Definitely KA-T. Remember SR can not be smogged. The only way to do it is scandalous and you have to find the right person that will do it. Theyre cracking down on a lot of smog stations for that in California at least. I cant speak for other states though. Remember parts for a KA engine are more available than an SR. You can find SR parts here but some places may not have it in stock and it may take a while to order it. So one minute youre driving. Next thing you know, youre starters gone. Youre car is sitting in the garage for a freakin week just waiting on the starter which takes a half hour to install. Whereas youre KA starter goes out and you have it changed same day due to the greater availability of stock parts. I have done research on this because at one point i was planning to go KA-T, but now its all about the SR. It was a good decision for me to say the least.

i dunno why i post realy weuird posts, but your right, i would piston and rod my ka too, and still the car would be faster than if u bought a 3.5k sr,

and the ka u can get low mileage from somewhere i dunno if they are rare or not, if u blow ur engine get anothe rone transfer ur turbo stuffs onto it
