went drifting, now car wont start

well sort of... lol

my car has in the past few months been finicky getting it to start. you have to push the clutch pedal in fast and turn the key right when it hits the floor of the car. it used to be forgiving, but recently it has to be timed vary well. sometimes it would take a couple tries, but it always started.

i drifting the normal back roads i usually do on a daily basis on the way to my gf house. drove great the whole time.


parked it. went to start it a few hours later and it wont turn over. i figured i wasnt timing it right or something so i tried over and over but i just couldnt get it to start this time.


i pressed the clutch sensor in with my finger and tried to start it. that didnt work. i realized the sensor wasnt even plugged in... i looked around and couldnt see anything that plugged into it.


my car was converted to 5-speed by the previous owner, so maybe it never was even hooked up, and i was pressing the clutch in out of habit?


anyhow if that is the case, what is keeping it from starting?


and if it did somehow come unplugged(and i just cant find the plug), would that keep it from starting? or would not having it hooked up let the car start without the clutch being pressed in?


the car is a 95 s14 with a redtop swap.

yeah i think that sensor is your problem, most cars wont start without that wire .. unless the other owner rigged it somehow to work without it

If its the sensor just loop a wire to the plug thats what i did, no need to press in the clutch any more to start the car for me

check wire harness under driver front fender. I had that happen to me once after drifting, because i burned a hole in my harness.

can anyone show me a pic of what this sensor plug is supposed to look like? there are a few down under there and im not sure if my car even has one because it used to be auto... lol.

if it never had one, then its not your problem. If it did have one,. then it will look the opposite of what the sensor plug looks like.

If there is no plug for the sensor, i bet starter

ok i looked around the area and there were no plugs near the sensor. i did find one close, but it did not reach to the sensor. it was a blue plug, which i noticed all the pedal sensors use. i disconnected the sensor and it fit right into the blue plug. car still didnt start when i pressed the button with my finger.

in case the sensor was bad, i jumped the blue plug. the car still didnt start.

i check my fuses in the kickpanel (there were two i think were related, ign and starter signal) both were fine.

i tapped the starter with a hammer. still didnt start.

i jumped the starter using a wire from the batter. the starter turned over right away. so the starter is good.

conclusion so far:

the clutch pedal sensor must be jumped somewhere other than at the clutch pedal... maybe it came undone at this location? I have no idea about how to go about finding it though.

or something in the ignition is bad and isnt sending a signal to the starter.


any ideas/thoughts?

the clip is on there. i pulled it off to test the starter and i put it right back on.



anyone know a good way to test the ignition?

or where else the clutch pedal sensor could be jumped at?

probably just gonna wire up a push button starter for now.... eww lol

wired the push button starter. i had to pump the gas to get it to start though... which was a little weird. i drove it around and shut it off and it started right bakc up so i dont know what the deal was.

the ignition must trigger something for cold starts. if i turn the key the entire way like i am trying to start it, and then press the start button, it starts right up. but if i only turn the key to "on" and then press the button, it just turns over and over until i pump the gas.. then it will start.

If your car was swapped to a 5-speed, then check the wiring under the hood at the fuse box to make sure the park neutral switch wires are still connected/plugged in.
