View Full Version : Little Stupid Tubes & Sensors (KAT)

Ok so after actually installing all of the major things... I have run into a few(many) problems!
Problem Set 1
So on my down pipe the oxygen sensor does not fit, however the smaller one from just before the cat does fit. It's too bad I broke it taking it out, so now I need to buy a new one. The question is... Should I buy two?
Is the oxygen sensor in the manifold the same thing as the sensor farther down the exhaust system? Same plug, and same ground...
OEM sensors read 0-1 volt and thats it right?
Could I just not use any of these sensor? =\
:hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
EDIT: Since they are just for my check engine light I think I can ditch both? Anybody with info against this?
Problem Set 2
All these miscellanous hoses and junk are attached to the intake! Which of these are keepers? I know I need a nipple for a boost gauge, wastegate, and a flange for my bov... I still need one for the AIV right? and the one more small one under the throttle body?
Help Please! My dyno date is comming up and im getting scared!:eek:
On the brighter side everything is in beside the fuel rail now. The i/c piping is ready for the welding (except the # of holes and nipples is still in question), even got all of the exhaust side in (beside the 2 o2 sensors). Everythings been photographed as step by step as I could....

If you haven't found your answer yet, 240racer is the person you might want to pm. He seems to be very knowledgeable.

every single hose on your intake mani is required. It wouldn't be there if u didn't need it. However, you can tap any of em for boost/bov readings. I personally used the fpr vacuum hose. For the wastegate there is a fitting on your turbo compressor side. use that.
the o2 sensors don't just give you the check engine light. They also tell the ecu how much fuel to dump. Taking them out will make the ecu revert to a safe mode which will make u run really rich. Not to mention that check engine light WILL make you fail emissions

u dont need all those hoses under there....out of all of those...i use ....1...yea and my car runs fine:boink:
but make sure u seal the stuff and know wut it does
pic of it tomorrow

ummmmm......
If the factory placed them there, means they have to be there. Unless u decide to remove whatever the hose goes to, you have to keep them there. The car might still run if you leave them out, but i'm pretty sure it won't run right
all you have to do is drill a hole, put a fitting in and jbweld. 10 minutes. No problem with idle or what not.

The plugs are different, meaning they won't change out or mix. If you want to buy two for redundancy, then so be it.
Why would you want to ditch both? What...to get rid of the light? I would recommend against it, just replace both of them and clear the ecu. I would first verify the ecu codes for which O2 sensor is actually out.

In my car, the O2 sensors were totally different. The primary (on the manifold) was large, and the secondary was small.. a little bigger around than a pen. They tell the computer the approximate mixture of air:fuel, and the computer adjusts from there. Without it, your performance and emissions will suffer.
Also, the vacuum lines on the mani aren't all used, assuming you took out the EGR and other useless crap. I have one vacuum line up top left, and a lot below, because those are the important ones (brake booster, fpr, ect).
There is a metal tube to the right of the TB, and that gets plumbed into the pressurized intake side. Then the little tube under the TB gets plumbed into the metered air (unpressurized) tubing.

Sorry for the blitz of turbo related posts ^_^;;
Anyway...
I know the second sensor just relays information to the ecu comparing its findings to the first sensors to tell your light to go on, and others on FA notably are running with out it. I'm in cali so I get a big fat F in emissions anyway so I'm just going to disregard this second sensor. The first sensor(from what I gathered) controls the a/f.
I busted the 2nd O2 sensor in a removal mishap, and the first one plain doesn't fit into the hole that was made (fabricator error?), the second(now busted) O2 sensor fits it perfectly, and since they're the same type of 1 volt sensor(plug and wiring are the same as well) I think I can use the same type of small O2 sensor to do the job of the larger one that doesn't fit... Anybody see anything wrong with this idea?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So the biggest of the three(on the valve cover) gets a breather, the medium one (right of the TB) gets plumbed to the cold pipe, and the smallest one (under the TB) gets plumbed to after the air filter before the turbo?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bov gets plumbed to the FPR
Side of the W/G(Tial 35mm) gets plumbed to just after the turbo
Top of the W/G gets plumbed to the boost controller valve
Boost Controller Valve(Profec E-01) get plubed to just after the turbo
The details are killing me! I hope I don't get to R&D and have them tell me nothing works o.O

I got yelled at by JWT for using a breather filter on the valve cover. So now.. it is in the intake piping after the filter. Just a heads up.
All your other hoses are right though. Read your E-01 instruction manual for how you're supposed to hook that up. It differs slightly from model to model.
And why the hell aren't your 2 O2 sensors different sizes?
