So my car won't start. I checked the battery and it read 4 volts so I jump started it with my other car and even after letting my other car run for 10 minutes the battery was reading 5.80 volts at the highest. Lights wouldnt come on and car wouldnt start or crank. What's going on. I dont want to buy a new battery if I don't have to

I took the battery to autozone and they charged it up and the battery is good. I put it in the car and started it up and it runs like shit. Idles at like 200-300 and wants to die and white smoke comes out the exhaust. It was running good yesterday before the battery died, well not good but it idled at 1000 and ran pretty darn good besides my gas leak problem. So now what could it be?

check the alternator?
when the car is running, your alternator is supposed to put out around 14.0 volts

just got the same problem today. noticed my connections on the battery were bad. it caused a chain reaction, killed my alternator and battery. thank jah for warranties lol go to autozone and get the alternator tested. its either a bad alternator or you can have bad connections or grounds

First check your ALT fuse I made the mistake changed my battery and ALT and still had the same problem looked at my fuses and was very disappointing to see that it was a fuse The smoking and bad idle could be low voltage issues

Like the others said. check for 14 volts at the alternator output, check for voltage drop at the battery terminals, check your fuses.
