hey guys, :wavey:
im new here and recently bought a 1997 240sx from thrwnsprkz and BTW DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HIM!!HE WILL FRAUD U SOMEHOW!!

ok so on to the story.
So i bought the car from him..and kinda my fault i did'nt look very close to the car
but after few days of owning the car i found out:
- Most intake bolts were missing/Bolts all over
- Leaking Valve cover Gasket
- Oil Pan leaking
- It was an automatic before
- S13 Transmission
- Couple transmission connectors cut off
- 3 bolts missing where trans bolts to the block and its leaking
- Truck leaks from the tail lights

So i thought its ok no biggie...then could days ago i went to get my echeck done..they said it does'nt have a check engine light at ALL. i was like great
i went home and opened out the cluster and this guy took the bulb for check engine light off :axe:
So i went to autozone to get the codes. Here's what needs to be fixed
-Crankshaft Position Senor Error
-EGR error
-Knock Senor
-O2 sensor

And today i went to my friend (Mechanic) to have him clear the codes w/ his Snap on obd2 scanner..and he said that O2 is fine?
So i don't know why the light for that is on...he said it might be on bec. of the EGR.
After 2 minutes of drive the CEL came back on.
So now im really confused on how to go about these problems.
I am confused about the EGR..the guy before me half assed on taking it off. So i need help with out to remore it completely.
i have seen the DIY on EGR removal but most r missing the pics from them..which is most helpfull to me.
So here ihave have the pics of how the EGR looks like.

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3050.jpg
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3051.jpg
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3052.jpghttp://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3054.jpghttp://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3055.jpghttp://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3056.jpghttp://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3057.jpg

So ive added couple things to the car like Intake, tinted tails..and have header, test pipe and z32 brake sitting to be installed after i figure out how to fix those problems i stated.
here r couple pics of the car!http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm300/jsingh91/IMG_3053.jpg

please any help would be appreciated..please guide me how to remore the egr properly and not have the Check Engine light for it!
sorry about long post..thanks! :D

So you bought a car as is, you didnt do your homework on the car and now youre crying about it?

Since the Engine light got reset, pull it again and see what it is exactly. More than likely its the EGR and crank angle sensor. It's kinda hard to not get a check engine light. Car is OBD-II and that shit will trip it. Put back the EGR and the crank angle sensor on top of the bellhousing was probably not installed since its an S13 transmission.

thanks for reply..actually i was looking for a 240 for a long time...but i guess i can be blamed on it because i did'nt reseach on it.
but to reconnect the EGR would i need just a new EGR tube? and where does that rubber hose connect to that has a screw in it (in pics)?
thanks agian

you can put the crank angle sensor on the s13 trans bell housing you just need to drill a hole to mount it.

For the EGR...you could try a 100k Ohm resistor in place of the EGR temp sensor. Assuming there is no visual inspection?

The only way the computer can check EGR function, is to check for higher temps in the intake manifold when the EGR *should* be active. There is a temperature sensor in the intake manifold, between the #2 and #3 runner, IIRC. It's a 2 wire plug. You just cut that plug off, wire a resistor in line...and voila!..any time the ECU checks for EGR function, the resistor will tell it that the temps are where they should be...and all is well.

Mine has been like that for ~9 years...and no EGR codes.

...or you can replace the tube.

o really? wat location would i drill in the hole? and how would i screw it down? since their's is no brackets on s13 tranny to hold the sensor?

thanks

thanks for replying! that's a great idea if it works...also did u use 1/4 Watt or 1/2 Watt 100K ohm resistor? and u just connect on end of wire with the resistor and connected to the other wire? like this pictues i drew:

im gonna try this today and c if the EGR light goes away! thanks for the help!!

to of the bell housing dead center towards the front edge of it. Just look at the pic of a S14 bell housing up close and you will see it.

r u reffering to these two holes on s14 belhousing on this picture:

^ is that how the holes should look like..i just ordered the crank position sensor from advanced auto parts today..should be here tom.!
also...for EGR to connect it back..i need the tube and where does that rubber hose with a screw goes? and would that be all to have it back working? or anything else needs to be hooked up?
thanks

You need the metal pipe from the exhaust to the EGR.
The rubber cap is on the EGR. That line with the screw on it from the pressure transducer should hook up to it in place of the cap. Probably did that to stop the EGR from working.

You are lucky you aren't throwing more codes from the swap. It is an automatic chassis. Your CPS and O2 problems are from the swap. They are both on the lower(transmission) harness. Check and see if you have a O2 sensor behind the cat next to the transmission and if it's wired into the transmission harness.

I am pretty sure that i have the 2nd O2 sensor..ill check tom. if it is connected to the harness. But the code i have is for the primary sensor..which is on the header? so would'nt it throw code for second sensor?

and any opinion why would knock sensor throw malfunction code? previous owner said he put a new one in..i don't know if i should believe that..

What codes are being thrown after the reset? Same four?

The EGR may not be sealed at the manifold. Getting some air reversion throwing off the O2 sensors reading. If it's the original I would just replace it.

Knock sensor is usually a harness problem if the sensor didn't ground out. You can unplug it and run without it and see if the code throws. If it does it's the harness.

lol, he gave you zenki taillights, thats why their leaking probably didn't reseal them correctly.

yup those are the holes. the smaller one is threaded for the bolt that holds the sensor in place.

ok ill give it a shot...how can i check if the harness is grounded correctly?

and i did'nt check for codes again..ill try to go today or tom. to autozone to have them pull them.

Also i did check that the 2nd O2 sensor was connected to the harness...but also i found a wire by transmission that looked to be that it was some sort of a ground? but it was just hanging loose their?
and i have the crankposition sensor..and its just their.. so have to drill hole for it..
