Turn signal problem

for a while my front left turn signal has not working, it will flash quicker than usual which i know just means i need a new bulb. but after a few days of it not working at all i replaced the bulb. the bulb only works fine when it is not in the housing or the car lights are not on, if the lights are on it flashes fast again, but its a brand new bulb. any answers?

Wrong bulb?

The front turn signal is a dual filament, 1157 bulb. Rear is a single filament, 1156. Verify that before going any further.

its only the front though....i made sure it was a 1157 bulb, i brought it to O'Rileys before i bought one. i also tried both bulbs in the pack to see if it was just a messed up bulb.
