View Full Version : VC 24400 Too Low Ticket....
Searched.
I recently got pulled over for "loud exhaust" (which I had a noise-compliant certificate for), cops check under my hood (all stock).
So the cops had nothing on me. I was pissed at the cops for being profiled, so they decided they couldn't let me go without a ticket. The dudes took out a tape measure & cited me for VC 24400 headlamp under 22" from ground.
What is the easiest solution to getting this dropped? I don't want to have to raise the front of my car and mess up my alignment - but if I have to i'll do it. Also, If I pay the ticket will the charges be dropped?
Thanks for any help.:naw:

Easiest way? Don't title cars in states that have laws you don't like =p.
You'll probably end up paying it. :/

I didn't even know you could get a certificate of " noise compliance. " Wow you learn something everyday. Why don't you measure it and see how far of you are from 22'' and if its just a little like 21'' then raise it just an inch?

omg o.o
but yeah, dude, don't let cops know they can piss you off nor be dicks to them. Cops are humans and they get pissed when disrespected, they have a higher authority than you and an ability to ticket you which they will enforce if you piss them off.

Raise car for inspection. Drop car after inspection. Alignment should be what it was before if you set the height to what it was before.

This. Ftmfw. Quit crying, suck it up and move on. It's California and you should know this by now. And shut your mouth next time cause you look stupid to them and everyone else especially when you complain about how you complained to a cop.

how were you profiled? its not like your car was bone stock and they pulled you over to fuck with you. you got a legitimate ticket because your car was to low.

in the end though, just respect the authorities. the more problems you give them, the more prolems you're getting in return.

jack the car back up put some wood blocks under the car when the cop comes out to inspect and then drop back down.
stamp/pay/done.
I hope for your sake the ticket isn't due tomorrow ?
FYI car has to be at least 18in high from the center of the headlight.

yeah dude, never good to talk back to a cop. especially terms like "profiled". they already get under fire on the news for that shit, and now you bring it up to them? yeah, that will surely piss them off. I got a ticket for headlights being modified on my s14 kouki. but he said in the end "i could give you a ticket for your exhaust, modified safety equipment(QR and stuff), tint and etc..., but you seem to be a respectful guy so just fix the headlight coz people are complaining about how those lights blinding." I could have been an ass and said, "why not pull over the trucks that blind everyone? why me?" but i didnt, coz you are questioning their judgement.. which it probably wont settle very well with most of them. just say, im sorry officer, i will get it fixed as soon as i can..

lol...22 inches from the ground....what? lol. that's like almost 2 feet. are most cars 2 feet of the ground? i could swear the z is super low stock?
and yes, i can vouch that if you are respectable...they will treat you with respect. for 4 months I had an suspended registration....it was the 3rd cop that gave me a fix it ticket...so the other three were like...just fix it. And I have....but this third one...is costing me money now. lol.

Middle of the headlamp has to be at 22 inches. With my old S13 I could get away with it due to flip ups. However, with my Z, I'm way below that limit, lol

Your not going to win against a cop. Everyone knows some can be assholes but you just got to deal with it. I get pulled over all the time for my exhaust and I always am respectful and most of the time they let me go with a warning.
And I've never been asked to open my hood or anything.
Just be respectful and 90% of the time they treat you the same way back.

Wow... Giving a cop back talk = ticket(maybe even jail time), everyone in cali knows that son. And to think a cop has nothing to get you for youve got another thing coming. They can get you for things you didnt even know existed if they wanted to be dicks.. Hense this thread. Slap some larger tires on it and learn you lessons more tickets for you my man.

I wasnt sure about that rule anymore either because every cop that has pulled me over told me no part of the car can pass the lowest part of the rim. I've been pulled over a few times for exhaust, and being too low. They always run my info, I talk to them with respect, and they let me go with warnings. Hopefully you take some of the advice in this thread and not talkback to the officer. Good luck.

WHY do you open the hood??? :squint:
I argued a cop for giving me a loud exhaust ticket when I told him it was tested below the decible level....
on a MC, i got 5 loud exhaust tickets the same day, all diff cops.
:rant2: did not want to hear that i had a dB meter and it was within the legal definition.
so i then got 5 different cops to sign off as now being compliant (still same day, had to pass the donut shop)
so much for interpretation.
now these tix are $10, minimum, ea in court.
at least they met their quota for the weekend...

False. I'm dealing with one of these right now. Try to go get it signed off anywhere. They won't. All of them refer you to the ref station where you have to pay like $110 And get your car tested and everything.
Even if you have the stock system back on, they still won't sign it off.

You can go to the court in advance and tell them your car isn't running. Ask them if u can just pay off the ticket...I payed $200 for my exhaust ticket....Saved me from buying a stock one and missing a day off work.

Incorrect. 18 was the limit several years ago. It has since been raised to 22".
I got a "too low" ticket once. I measured my ride height at 22.5". I did nothing to "correct" it. When I went to the police station to get it signed off, the lady at the counter said, "So, did you correct the violation?"
I said, "Nope, it was never lower than the legal limit."
She replied, "So, you corrected the violation, right?" as she shook her head up and down.
I said, "Oh, yes, I did." She signed the ticket and sent me on my way.

i said MINIMUM!
used to get em signed off for free!
some violations have a penalty if its not corrected, others MUST be 'fixed'
i got a tint violation that was $85, was cheaper to pay than 'fix'. done.
hang out at the donut shop, spend a few $$ on an extra donut and cupOcoffee ;)
have a pen handy too.
does the local CHP inspect?

Its 22inch from the middle of the headlight to the ground, and chassis/frame has to be atleast 3inch or more from the ground.

11-03-2010, 03:53 AM
very strange because i highly doubt the headlights for some if not of the super exotics have headlights lower than 22". i mean the lotus exige, elise, the TraMontana R, the lambos, saleen s7, gumpert apollo, these cars sit super low to the ground, but then again 240sx isn't the most glamorous car out there, so whats your car look like that is attracting their attention
Z32TT-R
11-09-2010, 12:25 AM
^Quite possibly true, i been pulled over 5 times for being too low when owning my Civic, it had too be 22inch or higher from the middle of the headlight, and frame no lower then 3" from ground. I had looked up for that same reason you explained( exotics or other cars being lower then 22" from middle of headlight from factory), and for those cars the frame cant be less than 3"from the ground, since their frames do come higher then 3" from the factory. But for the most part cops dont really care about ticketing exotics too much.

If you have popups, just popup your headlight and get the ticket signed off at the police station or chp. if you have silvia front your fucked, just raise your coilovers.
]
As far as exhaust tickets, you dont have to go to a ref, they just made that shit up to scare us. I had my exhaust tickets signed off 3 weeks ago at the walnut police station. It was $25 per corrected violation at west covina court.

Talk about corruption... Same thing goes for sportbikes with exhaust on (not the loudest ones) and then Harleys. It is profiling. Why do rich people with Lambos etc. get off? Because it's a circle in the law. Their lawyer goes to court, and i bet the judge gets a cut from the lawyers payment.
Seriously, if You would think, is there any Lambo, or Ferrari that is below 95dB? Prove me wrong, and i will admit i was wrong, but it haven't seen (heard) one on a quiet note. Unless you run stupidly loud exhaust (i mean really screaming) on a 240 - maybe the ticket is legit. But this only goes to prove that 5.0 goes and profiles after the poor-to-mid class people. And trust me, i hate fart cans on Civics, Cobalts, and all the other ricers, but a nice sounding legit exhaust - is just music to my ears.
