Hey guys. Iv been screwin around with 240s for about 4 years now, since I was 17. this hatch has been my major project and last winter is when I really started to do some heavy work to it. everyone likes build threads so I figured id post some pics

quick run down of the future setup for it.

^^ You think he planned on running the same wheels forever? With an engine bay that serious, surely he planned on upgrading the wheels to something that would utilize tubs. And a hill billy seat??? Your a fucking idiot! Kirkey isn't hill billy in the slightest. It's a respected and safe seat for straight line racing, which looks to me like the direction that this build is headed for.

LOL!! thanks guys! to be honest I do just like fabricating, and this car has been my test dummy. It started with the tubs because the salt up here in wisconsin rotted my wheel wells away, so when I was 19 I tried my hand at doing the tubs because it was that or trying to weld sheetmetal from another car back in.

It got to a point where I had to pick one direction and I had more stuff for a drag car so I decided on that. I went to put a fuel cell in last winter and ended up redoing the frame from the strut towers back. Next I went to re do the engine bay and ended up shaving most of the firewall and going tubular, and I still am adding some more bars from the strut towers down to the rails. Then I went to start doing the cage I cut the catalytic converter hump out of the floor, which led to more cutting of the floor, which led to the removal of most all the floor and tunnel. Im still gonna make a new new intake and exhaust manifold for the car as well as a bunch of other fun stuff. Thanks for the compliments though. its weird, most people I know really hate on me for the project, except for my good friends .

vlad, im sorry you dont like my wheels. I found them on ebay years ago and fell in love with them. volk gtu's from 1991. Instead of buying bigger wheels im gonna do ya one better and narrow the fronts and widen the rears :D

seeing this makes me wonder....

how much of the car can you cut away without it making an impact on driving?

I understand you could technically build a complete tube chasis...but I was more so asking this in a weight ratio (front to rear to each corner)...wondering how much of the human error would cause a car to be technically off?

if this makes any sense at all.

that would be the case If I put .750 wall tubing in the front, .120 wall in the middle, .500 wall on one side, and a combination of 16, 14, and 12 gauge sheet in each different corner.

I pretty much put back in the same place what I took out, just made it extremely rigid and nhra (currently 8.50, and easily upgradable to 25.5) legal

I got a little more done on the cage but iv been busy with a custom subframe and oil pan for a guys e30 m3 with an s54 engine. Ill post some new pics tomorrow if I work on the 240 some more

thanks yo, iv been welding since I was 13 and tig welding for the last few years. My dad built this shop, which is our home shop, in 1994. Iv been paying my dues for a long time now to be able to use everything in it. We have an amazing relationship but he builds his stuff and I build mine. I have learned so much from him by just watching. Its cool because even though Im young we feed off each other and I can give him suggestions and he actually uses them, and he definitely points me in the right direction when I get stumped. I cant believe that after all this time he has never put down a weld on my car haha.

the car is a straight line car, but will mainly see street use. It will have carpet, nice paint and bodywork. im all about having function with form, and havent encountered an area where I had to give of form to get function yet.

im staying irs for now, we will see how well i can set it up to hook.

im doing a different style front suspension so im cutting the shock towers off and going a different route, ill post pics of that soon.

the goal for the car is to get to the chassis cert. (8.50's) when it will get to that im not sure, but I do have plans of purchasing a 7675 precision at some point for this motor.

im in oconomowoc, just a half hour west of milwaukee.

it should be done sometime next summer depending if I can ever work on it! I just got another part time job at an industrial metal fab shop so im really eating up my "working on 240 time"

the turbo manifold is just on their for shits, im making a whole new setup, and going with a precision turbo. but here is how it sits after 4 hours of cutting and re building

I have seen plenty of 1.5 60' on IRS S13's but those cars were in the 11's.

With the times you're planning for you might be paving the way for IRS drag 240's

im hoping I can get the IRS to hook, time will tell.

and Im going to cryo treat all the factory trans internals and brace the case itself. I have heard if I can keep the input shaft intact that it will start tearing the case apart, but hopefully some proper bracing may keep it together. but eventually I will run a g force trans

Just wondering why not run a automatic? all this time and effort into it trying to shift the car that fast down the track?

I've seen quite a few 2JZ S-Chassis run all over the low 9 second time frame on the factory IRS so you be able to get there too.

I just dont care to do that yet. I want to keep some fun in it rather than shift once with a powerglide

a clutchless g force 5 speed will be sick. High rpm dump the clutch launch and bang gears like a pro stock car.

Been slowly working on it. School, work, and doing a lot of fab work on the side doesnt leave much time for it.

finishing the wheels up today. chucked the barrels up in the lathe and spun them at 1000rpm. cut them down with 80, then 220, then red scotch brite pad and cleared.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it! Im starting a checklist and getting certain aspects %100 percent done. As far as TK2K12 goes, I will be there if I graduate school on time, and have the funds to buy a big boy turbo haha. Ill still get eaten though.

The strut towers are up as high as I can go with hood clearance and the mounts on the struts Im running right now are re made so that the original top bolt hole is now the lower bolt hole on the spindle. Its tucking and looks nice, no silly camber, and still has some suspension travel.
