Hey guys! After sitting for about a year I decided to wipe the dust off my s13(w/sr20det) and start working on it again. The motor itself runs great! The transmission on the other hand I'm not sure of and I wanted to get opinions of other owners.
Currently I'm running a Spec stg.2 clutch with a Fidanza flywheel. Under normal conditions the car runs fine. I do notice that the engagement point on the clutch is pretty high, and it's pretty snappy in that the engagement is pretty crisp there's really not much play to be able to feather it. At least that's my interpretation when I'm driving it. My buddy says it's slipping. When shifting it shifts fine but when I go from a regular coasting speed and I get on the gas it feels like there's a really slight delay before it takes off and compared to the old KA it really takes off =)
I did some research regarding the ins and outs of flywheels. It seems that lighter will enable the car to rev up quicker but at the same time it requires keeping the revs up some. The lightened rotation mass might account for the slight delay?
I guess my question is geared(get it?) towards owners of clutch/lightened flywheel combo. Is it normal for the engagement to be so "instant?" I'm assuming so because it's supposed to be a stronger clutch. I also assume this accounts for the slightly stiffer pedal feel? Is what I'm experiencing the clutch really slipping or is it just the effects of the flywheel?
* keep in mind it's a new clutch/fw. It's got barely 10miles on it and it hasn't been driven since it got put in. I haven't been able to properly break it in since the car's not street legal yet, I don't drive it daily yet and I've only gotten on it a few times to get a taste of it. Mostly easy test drives around the hood. Def no racing or spirited driving. I'd also like to think that proper break in will resolve this issue?
Thanks guys!
Ray
