New issue, PS looks like it boils after car has started

Everytime I start the car, the ps starts to slosh around and form bubbles likes its boiling. It does this even after ive driven a few times. The fluid isnt hot after i dip a clean swab in there to test it.

I'm pretty sure that that's just the PS fluid circulating. My buddy's S14 also does the same thing.

All right, im just making sure. It seems strange to me because my s13 doesnt do it at all.

Same lol... I figure the spots under the car are either from PS fluid or a leaky oil pan gasket... But probably both.

What should i do to get the air out? Can i just take out the ps pump or fill it up with new fluid?The steering is alittle hard to turn though sometimes if that helps anyone.

Well I'd worry about how the air is getting in first. (Its not cause the cap is off, it's cause there is a leak somewhere in the hydraulic system.)

You aren't leaking power steering fluid from anything when the car is off?

Lift the front of the car, fill it, turn the wheel lock to lock a couple of times.... Then start the motor, repeat until air is all bled and then drop the front end back down....

Um i dont get that. Where would i be leaking if theres no spots under my car?Ive done that slider and it still does the same thing.

Then it could be an issue with the pump... But what fluid are you using? Try atf?

I use ps fluid. I dont remember the brand? ATF?Is that automatic transmission fluid? Why would i screw up my car, last person to tell me that my ps pump siezed up and the car didnt work.

your suppose to use ATF Dexron 2 not ps fluid

Remove the hoses at the steering rack and turn wheels getting the P/S fluid out of the rack and drain the rest of the fluid from the sytem. Fill with ATF (been using it in my pump for the last two years with no issues) and turn from lock-to-lock with the engine off. Start vehicle and add necessary fluid to keep level at minimum or more line. Once bled, there should be no noise and steering effort should be relatively normal. If the steering is hard at times, then there could be a issue with the pump or rack, or a restiction in the system.

+1...Nissan uses ATF for the PS. Regular PS fluid is too thin.

maybe it is a thinner fluid thats in there. guys this is making more sense than shops explain.

Ok I think this is the same issue but i want to toss this out so i know 100% it is the ps pump. My steering will go from stiff to loose at random times.
