Im taking an entrepreneur class and i had to think about a business idea and need a survey from people for my project if its a good idea or not. Answer the questions if you like, respond back positive negative criticism is good.
My business idea is a store that offers Racing Safety Equipment; Gloves, Helmets, shoes suits. It will also sell steering wheels, quick releases, fire safety systems, roll cages. Anything and everything you can think of that will keep you safe on the track. So i know there are already business that are online that off these products but my idea was to have a big store that will give customers a place to try equipment on and get a feel for different big name brands. In San Jose California we do not have something this big. There is a cycle gear in Los Gatos that offers motorcycle gear and its an awesome shop.
Questions
Would you shop at this store?
Do you think it is a good idea?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks Ryan

One, do your research at a fucking track. Its more dedicated and attuned to what you're trying to receive.
Two, zilvian are cheap asses. Why do you think zilvians do online shopping? Lowballing like a motherfucker.
Three, likely people will go to your shop, try shit on, and then buy online, where they can likely find it cheaper.
Four, I would try shit on at this store, and then order online, where I get nice discounts.
Five, this is a fucking dumb idea.

1.) no because ebay LOLOL
2.) seriously, a racing safety equipment store is just too niche, change to a sports bar or something

^^^whoa easy on the haterade
i think this is a great idea, there are only a few good speed shops in the chicago area and i have always wanted a place to go to look at inventory of parts and equipment and buy it if i needed to. I mean we do have places like AMS racing and smaller shops scattered throughout but if there was a click and mortar store that combined both online shopping and physical inventory to look at/buy i would be going in that place for sure.
but i do agree, in order for a business like that it needs to be broader, like just a general speed shop, ya know, dyno, LARGE inventory of parts that are in stock, skilled guys to do tuning ect...

The only way you could make money off this is to have a limited stock. As soon as you spend a lot of money building your inventory, you'll realize that not everything sells.
Its a good 'idea' but getting peoples money is hard. Your Idea has to do everything.

Yeah you might want to be more creative with this... There is plenty of small shops and other resources online very similar to your idea. Just too much competition out there for this type of business....

Questions:
Would you shop at this store?
Oh hell yea I would. In Orange County, there is only one shop that is somewhat like this, Super Autobacs/Autotoyz. But there selection of products is pretty bad.
Do you think it is a good idea?
It honestly depends on your location... and the economy... I like the idea but I would probably only shop there once

I live in the area, and like Vic Hubbards has some stuff and another place in oakland has something like that for safety equipment. Overall people buy this stuff online cause its a commodity. Its the same everywhere, therefore the differentiating factor is price. Its the way of the world..... + the market is too niche as mentioned before.....
Now here is a winner.... create an iPhone repair store.
There is one only in the area called cuptertino iphone, where they can repair cracked displays, recover data, etc etc etc.... or even jailbreak for you...
Get good with different ATT stores across the area... You would be rocking... People can use phones, but no one knows how to repair or recover them...

I don't think it would last with the internet marketplace.
Maybe if it was located AT the track lol for when people forget shit.

it would be a good idea but you would need to sell more than just safety gear
make it a full servise shop
parts
dyno
safety gear
and other stuff
questions
Would you shop at this store?
hell yes! as long as prices were better thn other places
Do you think it is a good idea?

truthfully, there are no need for brick and mortar stores selling such niche products anymore...consumers are super savvy now, they do their research and know exactly what they want...
only reason you would need a b&m store is for window shoppers, impulse buyers, or letting people try the equipment on...this is where other stores come in handy, hehe...each time i buy a helmet or gear, i go to road rider in san jose and try every single thing on...thank them for their time, go home, hop online, and buy it for a fraction of what any b&m store could ever offer...sorry, but i dont want to pay their part of the overhead...sounds fucked up, but its capitalism at its best...(dont get me wrong, i have bought other stuff and supported them in other ways)
not to mention your idea is a very niche category with people that are either hardcore weekend or club racers that are loyal to their shops/dealers or hardparkers that will just end up buying "takata style" harness and "works bell" style QRs on ebay...
i realize there isnt a huge store dedicated to track safety in the bay area, but youre forgetting about i/o port...one of the nations largest supplier of track safety equipment...albeit, theyre not exactly in the heart of the bay area, you will still have trouble competing with their market share and its omnipotent reach...
those are my lincolns...

Would you shop at this store? No, rather do research and buy online.
Do you think it is a good idea? Yes and no. It depends on location and reputation. Maybe you can make it an online store with a warehouse people can go to and try on merchandise, but pay a surcharge if they wish to buy on the spot or go home and order off the website at a lower price.

Cool thanks guys it was a quick project i did last minute and all the answers were what i needed. I bought shoes suit and gloves in the past and had a few problems sizing shit out so i figured it could be a good idea if the prices competed with online competitors.
Thanks again for the help

I would just go in to look at it in person or test fit. Then go research and buy it wherever was cheapest.
