Does anyone know how the front speakers in an S14 are wired? Are there any fuses or anything in between the deck and the speakers themselves that would keep them from working? or is the deck wired directly to the speakers?

When i bought my car the guy who sold it said that the speakers were working until he took out the headliner. How those two things have anything to do with each other is beyond me but at this point that's the only lead i have.

i have checked all of the fuses in the block behind the kick panel and they are good. any other suggestions? is there any chance that the run through the amp that is controlling the rear speakers and something in there is fucked up? this is my first S14 so im not familiar with the wiring whatsoever.

but it doesnt show anything regarding the amp for the rear speakers, and honestly i cant tell WTF is going on with the front speakers.

There are two amplifiers, one for front, one for rear. Swap them and see if the fronts begin working. If so, find an amp, plenty of people take them out.

thanks for the heads up. the amp for the front speakers is definitely dead. if i cant find a replacement amp for them im just gonna hard wire them straight from the deck.

OEM CD player? You can't, it's a preamp deck, there's no power so the front speakers will be barely audible at full volume. You have to have the amp, and like I said you can find one easily.

Aftermarket deck? It should have a built-in amplifier, bypass both OE amps completely. Tons of threads everywhere how to do it.

yep its and aftermarket deck. when i have the time i plan on removing all of the shit for the amps from the wiring harness and just wiring the speakers straight to the deck. thanks for pointing me in the right direction man. im gonna try and look up some of the threads you are talking about and see how others have done it.

I would re-wire the front speakers to the deck.Think its stupid how nissan has it set up since the amps do pretty much nothing

I will be, but not until i have some more free time. tracking down the problem was my biggest worry, but now that i have that solved im not worried about the rest.

Explain.

The amplifiers power the speakers, there's nothing stupid about it. Without them you would have no sound. They may not be the big, high power amplifiers you want but they do their job fine. This is an OE system you're talking about that's 16years old, it's not going to rattle windows or blow out eardrums.
