View Full Version : Does any sealer go between the silver weatherstrip retainer and body?

I am getting a slight drip on heavy rain (enough to flood the rear passenger mat) from about 3" in front of the roof drain. It looks like it's coming from behind the weatherstrip retainer (I pulled the weatherstrip and the top of it was dry....).

The weatherstrip is new.

I may just put a bead of silicone in anyway. I didn't see anything in the FSM about it.

It's a 1998 S14 body.

*update*

I took it all apart. There are foam gasketing strips along the inside of the piece. I had two issues with mine.

The main problem why it was leaking (I hope anyway, we have had 2 really good rains and my floor is dry) was they stripped the last screw prior to the upright piece causing it to not hug the body.

Bastages superglued the screw to the trim so it seemed tight.

The second part was there is like a wider foam gasket that holds the upright piece to the main part and seals it. They had separated the two halves but didn't re-seal it.

I took some clear silicone and followed the existing foam strips and used some more to reseal the two halves of the molding.

There is no sealer from the factory, the retainer screws to the body and the moulding snaps into the retainer.
