View Full Version : Lowering My Car...

I have a red 1992 240sx SE coupe 5-speed, nd wa wondering what springs I should buy to lower my car about 2 inches while mantaining a stock like ride or harder, but not too much harder.

What springs should I get? brand, version, etc.
What spring rate should I get?
Is a 2 inch drop to much? Will I hit speed bumps and all that crap?

Thanks.
Chad

It's been covered many times and you probably didn't search, but now I will tell you what to buy. YOU WILL BUY THE EIBACH SPORTLINE SPRINGS. You know why? They lower your car 1.75' to 2.25'. The ride MIGHT need some getting used to but there are several 240 owners that have them and have no problems with it. Now go and complete the mission and give your review after trying them. This thread will now self destruct in 5...4...ef it...BOOM!

Yeah I'm crazy...:aw:

would the ride be stiffer, i heard that Eibach makes their springs squishy or even softer than stock springs..?
opinion wanted, thanks.

I just got some Tein S techs on and they lower 1.5 in the front and 1.3 in the rear i think? but from what i heard people say they settle down to nearly 2 inches. They ride pretty good. not too soft and not too stiff.

Don't forget to get shock with that because your ride will be very harsh on the stock shocks. Also, 2" will have to make you take driveways one wheel at the time...

without appropriate shocks, your going to bounce around like a ricer.

If you want performance, don't drop the car more than about 1.5"

For looks.. do whatever.

Tried, tested and true... It took me a summer to realize that. What an idiot I was...

i have the pro kit and the ride was kinda soft w/ stock shocks. to stiffen up deffinately need shocks -agx, konis or tokico.

If you decide to get the sportlines you will greatly lose ride quality, it will be much stiffer, and you will hit bumpstops in the front all the time. I personally like the setup i have with the sportlines and agx's. I didn't want the prokits because they didn't lower the car enough(like 1"). The sportlines give it a nice agressive drop and a very stiff ride.

Of course, a ricer overdoes everything... They live by the "bigger is better" mentality!

because the dampers are too soft, the springs will be allowed to ocillate more. translate to.. Civic bounceing over train tracks, and then for the next 50 yrds too, and every subsequent bump.

The "ricer bounce" is when a severly lowered car with cut springs...or Aerospeeds...... (usually a Civic or Accord) crosses over the seams on a highway bridge where the asphalt meets the concrete....and the whole car violently floats up and down..front to back like a jack-in-the-box (toy..not the restaurant)

ricer bounce is a simulated blown strut

same effects as well as the looks too, haha.

Haha....blown strut...good call. Actually its like 4 blown struts...and if you're lucky and the ricer has big rims...the tires will rub and make a barking noise.....and the joints in the unibody of the civic will creak and moan.

Well I'm living it this summer cuz my struts are fuched up. Another thing blown struts will do is make you scared of turns. When I'm on the freeway and approach a curve (going 65) my car shakes like crazy. Today I was late for work and decided to gas it a little more around a curve (80mph) and my car started drifting towards the wall. But my KYB AGX are in tomorrow so I need to install them ASAP. By the way, I'm going with whiteline springs check for upcoming review on the struts though.;)
