View Full Version : worst bov!!!!

in the past year ive gone through 3 blow off valves.
2 greddy type s bov's and 1 hks bov. i was running them all recirculated on my sr20det red top. my car is running on stock boost.
eventually they all failed on me. all 3 would just stay open the whole time even when the rpm's were climbing.
any suggestions on what type of bov to use? i was talking to my friend and he said greddy and hks make the worst bov's. i researched on the forums and everyone said that these bov's are pretty good.
any input would be much appreciated.

Your friend is tripping.
You may want to adjust the bov, tighten it a bit. I have Greddy RS on my s14 sr and my friend has Greddy type S on his Supra MKIV. Mine was holding 19 psi and his was holding 30 psi. Tial bov is good too.

i had a HKS SSQV that went was kindda goofey working.
i switched out to a Tial Blow off valve and haven't had a single issue.
i will not buy another BOV other then a Tial unit.
TIAL FTW!

to the trash, fucking piece of shit bov. I have to open it up and service it every 2 months otherwise it just seizes. Last time I took it apart the fucking bolt holding the flapper assembly together came off in my intake. Luckily the car has yet to suck it into the engine.

I'm not sure about the Blitz DD but I had the one before that model and it held great at 2 bars. Yes 2 bars on an EVO III RS engine. Also had a Greddy Type S for a SW20 (17 psi) and Type R on 7M (20 psi) both ran ok.

Greddy Type-R
Hands down best BOV on the market.
I bought mine used and have been using it for over 3 years without a problem

wow thats crazy... I have had this one on my car for about a year and had one on my old 240 for over 2. Only had to replace the diaphragm on my last on about 9 months into its use.
I for one love it and will run it on my next car.
Sard R2D2.
Mine's awesome.
But, I absolutely loved my Tial, just wasn't running the right setup for it to be full functional. My next build will include a Greddy Type-R, if I even run a Blow-Off Valve.

The beauty of NA engines. =]
So, anyone experienced a leaking SSQV, which resulted in a bad/uneven idle? Im thinking of replacing mine, seems to be giving me trouble..

I ran the old JDM HKS on my S13 2 years then it leaked (which isn't bad considering its age). Bought the HKS ver.3 no problems. I run 2 HKS ver.2's on my Legend since 2007 no problems

Blitz DD FTW... 2 years and many different boost levels later i still have yet to have 1 problem with mine
before that i had a greddy type r ... also no problems i guess... maybe i know how to adjust them off the bat or something
and make sure you're not buying STYLE parts

to have 3 bov's fail on you, i think you have other problems. TONS of people use HKS and Greddy BOV's with no issues.

I have an HKS on my S14 now, no problems at 8psi. See what happens when the boost goes up. I ran a Type S on my 1g dsm and it was holding 26psi. Like others have said, make sure that it's somewhat tight. GL!

yes that's exactly what happend to my ssqv. my idle was horrible and the bov would open up before the turbo was supposed to spool.

i dont have problems with the car. ran a boost leak test, no leaks except coming from the bov. no exhaust leaks, new spark plugs, maf is clean and working well. im gonna do some more research on the TIAL bov.

just watch out, the tial is copied by a lot of shoty places on ebay and what not. i think super street did a picture comparison and they are very similar.
i had an hks on my wrx for 2 years and never had one problem. im wondering if its on your end. have you bought them used or something? when i bought the hks i bought all the hoses and misc stuff at lowes. the stuff that came with it didnt look like the best quality. i spent an extra 10$ and had top of the line stuff haha

i bought these bov's from 240sxmotoring.com
im not blaming anything on CIPracing. they've always been good with theyre products. i bought a tomei manifold from them that was a perfect fit.
i dont get it. other than my minor boltons my car is stock.
greddy vspl fmic

trust power extreme cat back exhaust

greddy downpipe
hks ssq (my 3rd bov this year that broke)

i had a turbo xs h34 on my old evo viii running 25psi for over 4 years strong!
yes that's exactly what happend to my ssqv. my idle was horrible and the bov would open up before the turbo was supposed to spool.
Thanks, I actually consider that to be GOOD news, makes me one step closer to figuring out whats causing my random idle issues..

open up the bov and see if you can change the seals, rebuild it and tighten it all the way.
