I read that the Spec-R S15 has rigidity and bracing upgrades over the spec-s.

I am trying to acquiring a shell of an S15 but many importer sites show the spec-s very cheap compared to the spec-r.

If I dont want a power-train, just chassis so I can build my off-road/track only car. Is it possible to get the spec-s and add bracing to make it an spec-r?

Or are the bracing upgrades not bolt on? Any one have a reference that states in detail the frame differences?

Also any suggestions on where to find just the s15 shell? The only thing I want in tact would be is the interior. No powertrain or similar stuff.

Thanks!

Alot of the bracing iirc are bolt ons. Spec R has a more bracing items in the trunk. Honestly, there isnt really anything different between the bodies to warrant you to spend the extra money, specially on a track car. You'll probably cage it anyway...

Here is a link to the Nissan Silvia S15 website. Its a little hard to navigate but click around and you might find some explanations.

This! I would save the extra dollars and put it towards something else.

Thanks for that link to the OEM Silvia website. I found a couple pictures of the bracing, and found this quote:

"Front crossbar, rear floor stays, a trunk bar and a rear crossbars were added"
Nissan 1999 Nissan Silvia Spec-R - Nissan cars specifications review (http://www.auto-power-girl.com/cars-1999/nissan-specifications/nissan_silvia_specr-1598)

I also saw on s15oc forums that there is a possibility that the spec-s frame is exactly the same as spec-r (fundamentally), and to add bracing, you simply find those holes which may be covered, and should be threaded.

Like I said, the frame/body is exactly the same. Only thing different is that Spec R has extra bolt on bracing. Nothing on the frame or subframe is altered between the 2.

Also everything from an S14 suspension/underpinning will bolt up to S15s and vice versa. I'm running an S15 coilover and exhaust.

Actually I take back the subframe. Subframe might be different. I know between the subframes between the S14 and S15 are slightly different. Just cant remember if thats S15 Spec R or both.
