So i have come across a 1972 datusn 240z and I am curious as to what this cars fallowing, backgroud, history, and worth is.
whats a car like this really worth? and if anyone knows anything about the setup or the history behind this car I would love to know more about it.
I have been pulling different things from different websites but I figured id post this up for all the nissan buffs to chim in on
Datsun : Z-Series: eBay Motors (item 250680803730 end time Aug-17-10 13:13:15 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-240Z-1972-240Z-BROCK-RACING-ENTERPRISES-BRE-tribute-car-/250680803730?pt=US_Cars_Trucks#ht_1422wt_946)
I am considering going halves on this car with my dad to have as a hobby weekend car not a daily driver. Just basically curious what it is worth and would love to know more about it

Not sure if sarcasm lol. It's a replica of a famous race car ;)

One. If you want a nice car to sit around just to look at, buy it.
Two. If you and your dad want a nice hobby weekend car, buy a shitty 240z and do it yourself.
Three. That car, to me, isn't worth half of the listed price. yea, shiny paintjob, blah blah blah. Its a replica, not the real deal.
Four. BRE makes amazing cars. Tried and true, they kill the fuck out of shit. Brock Racing Enterprises (http://bre2.net/index.php?section=1)
Five. So luxurious, IT HAS NO OPTIONS.

Well for one you are paying a premium for its so called replica status. Fact is a clean 72 240Z with great fresh paint can be had for like 5-6k. Second off its got some second rate parts on it rather than quality. Like a Grant GT steering wheel. LOL Autozone product.
Or the fact that it says it has sand marks in the paint. In my humble opinion its not worth what they are asking and they are using the fact that Pete Brock signed the dash cover as an excuse to charge more.
Plus anyone can do a replica BRE paint job and it does not make the car any more valuable. The only way the car would be more valuable if it truly was one of the original BRE cars. It is not.

thank you for the input guys keep it comeing.. i agree on the grant wheel. a chp officer put this car together and he is local so it kinda has a get out of tickets and non sense pull overs card on it haha local chp knows the car is street legal.
some guy/a friend made the ebay ad for him hence the spelling and mis use of words

that car is not racecar enough to have that paintjob.
To build a proper #46 replica you'd need a nissan competition manifold with triple Solex carbs, nissan competition 5-speed, R190 LSD with 4.44 gears, and American Le Mans magnesium wheels.
the ebay car is faking the funk, but it would still definitely still a blast to drive.

There, corrected it for you. To wit: long before there was Nismo here or even in Japan there was Datsun Competition department. Otherwise known as Datsun Comp. I still even have an old Datsun comp catalog somewhere around my place. Along with my 72 240Z FSM.
ehhhh its nice, not 10k nice. Maybe like 6k for the fact that its clean inside and out, street-able motor, and signed by Mr.Brock himself.

I think the car looks great and has some great things going for it. I think the hardcore nissan crowd here will always be too harsh on a car like this. If you like it and are okay with the price just grab it and enjoy!

Couldn't remember the greatest song in the world....... this is just a tribute... hahaha it would probably be more rewarding to build your own replica.
I will say that it is a very well thought out sale ad. Points for that.

Dont buy the cheapest Z you come across, you get what you paid for with these cars.
HIgher prices typically means better condition/less rust etc.
Since you don't know its worth, i would suggest doing more homework.

Definitely not worth the price he's asking for. The most I would pay for that thing is 5k max and I still wouldn't. I have had 7 240Z's ranging from 1970 to 1973. If it's going to be a hobby, it would be better to get one and start from scratch. Just find a nice, clean shell to start with. Then you can decide the pluther of engine combinations you want in it if your not a purist. I have had almost everything in there except for the RB engine (I still want to do it though hehe). It's nice to have specially when you finally get finished with it. Very frustrating though when something breaks and trying to find the part.
Below is my last build back in 97. L30 with 44mm DCOE Mikunis (I needed at least a 48mm but compensated with jettings), E31 head, P & P head, Pontiac valves & double springs, 512 cam, 280zx electronic distributor, MSD 6AL w/Blaster 2 coil, 5 speed, R200 rear end w/4.11, Holly electric pump & FPR, Energy bushing master kit, ST springs w/Tokiko's (didn't have money for the Arizona Z coilover kit), Toyota 4x4 fronts brakes & 280zx rear brakes, etc. I know I'm forgetting a lot more stuff but you get the picture. She wasn't perfect but she was a good runner.

It's actually the epitomy of frustration right there. Trying to synch 2 is a bitch let alone 3 :dead:. But after tuning and synching with the 512 really opens up at about 3100 rpm to 6500. Hearing those triples roar = SEX :wackit:

Are 280zx rear brakes a good setup for the older Z's?
I'm junking out an 83 ZX, should I grab the rear brakes before it gets crushed?

Ya except Nismo in Japan did not exist before the mid to late 80's and that is a fact. Granted there was a competition department but it was not called Nismo.
Now if you want to go on arguing these semantics we can. I was alive and playing with these cars when you were not even born. So I suggest you defer to the corrections and let it go.

You are correct Austin, but the car the OP posted is not a good example of being worth the money.

I would agree with these feelings. Having had 10 240Z's myself I know of what you speak of.
I would add that unless someone is able to find a Z with the original engine with corresponding numbers( something that is not easy to do these days) then an engine swap is fine. As most Z's these days do not have corresponding engine numbers anymore.
Oh and to the people that say " gotta love Triple Mikuni's". Ya great to look at and hear, a pain in the ass to keep tuned.

I hear yah. That Mikunis is my 3rd set of triples. My first was 40mm Mikunis, 2nd set was a completely rebuilt 40mm Webers, then I went back to Mikunis but a 44mm as it was a lot easier to tune than the Webers. Also makes a big difference of what type of linkages you have. Best one I've used are the TWMs but are big bucks.

No, you are a typical, "I think I know everything kid". I gave out, good true info and you tried to shit on it to make yourself feel better.
You have consistently posted stuff, you do not know about. When you are corrected, you resort to name calling and put downs. This is because you cannot bring yourself to admit you are wrong and you have no better comeback, due to that.
In other words, you need to shut up know.

Interesting. Looks to be a nice driver.
I won't say it's worth $10.5K, but it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. If it's rustless, I'd say 7 to 8 honestly, for me. Needs a few more pieces to be a true tribute car, but it's not as bad as some are nitpicking it to be.

Well I take that back. As a straight tribute car, it's pretty good. To be perfectly correct, yeah he'd need the Datsun Comp manifold like some others had mentioned as well as twin center exit exhaust and American Racing Libres. These are few noticeable pieces that, if he had them, would really create the look, but I'm sure it's an excellent car. I loved the Libres on my last Z. Classic.
Heck, it probably is worth $10.5K or more. If you buy it, note the pieces people have mentioned and make it even truer to the BRE car. :bigok:
