Question for you guys have painted your cars -
How do you deal with the black stripe along the top of the door, from the a-pillar back to the hatch (not the trim piece!)? I can't tell without taking it off if its paint or some kind of vinyl. Did you take it off and paint it back in, re-apply it if it is vinyl, leave it and tape around it?
Please let me know, I'm unsure what to do with this...

Are you talking about the black vinyl tape that runs from the front of the car to the end? It's just adhesive.

The shiny black piece. I scratched mine today with a damned clothes hanger. You get rainX on it, it ruins the paint too.
Yep, I wanna know myself.
It looks like aluminium.

can't u just use a blowdryer to get it out? i wanted to do this but i think the paint inside might be brighter than what i have.

No, not talking about the black trim tape on the side. And not the black metal trim piece over the door (although this is right next to what I'm asking about). The black section that I'm asking about runs front-to-back from the top corner of the windshield, back over the door, to the top of the hatch. ON TOP OF THE CAR.

Sounds like you're talking about the roof moldings, they cover up where the roof skin is welded on to each uniside. Press forward (towards the windshield) on the back edge of one molding. It should slide forward and lift up. Look at the clips on the molding, you'll be able to figure out how they work, and you'll be able to get the moldings off and on with no problem.

NOT the roof moldings. The black stripe under them - ON THE ROOF. The a-pillar is black. This black stripe runs back to the hatch on the roof. I think its a vinyl piece that is stuck on, but it looks like it would be a bitch re-apply to the a-pillar.
I appreciate all the help, but am I describing this so miserably that no one knows what stripe I am asking about???
