Anyone know of how I should store/protect internal engine parts? I'm breaking the entire motor down to every bolt and putting it in storage. I won't be rebuilding it for at least another couple years. The block, head, cams, pistons, etc will all be in bags, should I coat them with anything to prevent rust, etc? I'd rather not to use motor oil for risk of the bags breaking and motor oil getting all over the place. Anyone that has experience please help, thanks!
bucket of oil? ahah jk
well I'm pretty sure you can use some type of plastic bags(the thick pastic) and I doubt it'll break. just coat them in oil, no need to completely soak them

wipe them down with oil, and make sure to wrap your rods and pistons in something so they don't get scratched. scratches are stress risers and can cause cracks to form when you use them.

if you have any dessicant (like those little packets that come in the box when you buy a new pair of shoes) i usually put it in with anything that will be stored for a long time.

Any alternatives to oil I can use like wd40 or a lubricant that will spray on?

A coating of wd40 on the surfaces before you rap them in bags works well. It doesn't evaporate and comes in easy spray on form

i agree with wd40 . just spray is and put it in bags. the small pieces you can use zip lock bags and label the bag.

Thanks for the help guys, looks like I'll be properly storing the parts for the build-up in the future!
