generally you have to be experienced (to say the least) before people will even consider sponsoring you.

i agree with nocomedown. i thought in order to get sponsored for anything, you have to be good at it. if you are good at drifting, then maybe you can get sponsored. but i dunno. do you have an idea of how to drift? hopefully you've been doing it for a couple of years or so atleast.

You dont find sponsors, sponsors find you.

first:have to be good. no one will give u anything otherwise
second: gotta be somewhat well known
third: place well in events
fourth: meet EVERYONE you can
im sponsored (semi sponsored, full soon) by some compnay. also i meet everyone ican takl with everyone, compete in events, look good as best i can and be active and social.
:) oh and its all because of drifting. i have been doing it 11 months and no previous racing expirience. if you can give a company coverage they will want you
the they find you is BS unless you have CRAZY SKILLS like at least 2 years heavy drifting and some event wins under your belt. u wont get anything unless you send in your portifolio and such. but overall, you MUST need connections
oh and being in so cali is a HUUUUUGE PLUS. for drifting that is..

talk to the distributors. see if you can work somethin out. also look for used parts and check up on group buys.

just join those 4AG meets and stuff. get out there and start small, have to spend something from your pocket first to get something out of it. "Goals are created one step at a time."

its a catch 22
you need money to make money. likewise, you need a car, parts, track time, and exposure before you can get sponsors.
talk to people, make friends, but don't expect to get sponsored straight out or get "discounts" for "free"
hope to see you out there

I will sponser you. I will give you $5 if you "drift" your car into a wall and take video of it.

"You dont find sponsors, sponsors find you."
At the amateur level, that just isn't true. I don't know about pro...
Asking for sponsorship Isn't asking for discounts and free stuff in exchange for wearing a hat and putting a sticker on your car. It is a business proposition between you and a company. You have to offer them something they value in order to get something from them.
If they can print an ad in a magazine that costs them a couple hundred bucks and will reach more people than a sticker on your car, why would they even bother giving you a discount on parts?
You have to be able to show them that you are making it into magazines, you are wining competitions, you are all over the internet, whatever it takes to convince them that making no profit or even losing money on an item they give you or sell to you at a discount will make them enough money to be worth it for them.
People want the parts winners have, not average Joe drifter who's just starting out. I don't care what parts your running on your car...but say dousan is winning with his parts, so they must be good. I want to win so I'll run what dousan has :coolugh:
You'll need an automotive resume of some sort...can't get that w/out some money and talent to start.
Good luck :)

Essentially, you have to be something they can market just as you would market them. You must have some outstanding skills, kind of like being scouted for a baseball team feels (whoa, those were the days, college baseball that was). Be awesome and able to appeal to their demographics, being younger 16-25 people. They see you driving with their stuff and they want to buy from your sponsors. Show up at the events, advertise yourself, make friends around those meets and events, and be open to any and all prospects.

To get sponsored you just need to go onto an internet message board and beg. Surely somebody will see your skills and pick you up. Just keep bumping this thread to the top and you are a shoe-in.

ptttt sponsors sucks.
This is why I work and I sponsor myself. This way no pressure.
Last saturday someone came up to me and ask me if I wanted to get sponsored.... He was going to give me a freakin 3 feet tall wing. WTF?

trueno: best sponsors just give you kick-ass rates on parts (dealer cost and such). full sponors are, yes, a hassle. too much work and they try to stick lotsa crap on your car..bleh! make you go to shows and such. not right!

yeah hook ups are best...just getting things at wholesale rocks...with a real sponsor there is just too much control on their part..

just talk to people, and practice drifting more. As for me, personally, I dont like this whole driftig idea.
So having connections will help alot. I don't drift and still have hookups(I know them) with Sprint Springs, Yokohama USA, and Konig...so quit the whinning and start the chatting! j/p.

Let me help some of you out. As Sponsorship Coordinator for my team. I know a little about this subject.
1st a little background. My brother is Director of Sport Compact Sales/Marketing @ Autometer. He is in charge of sponsoring cars for autometer as well as a host of other things. I myself have gotten my team Sponsored by. Rotora and Hanhook Tires just to name two. I have gotten my team's shows covered by Super Street. Plus gotten 2 cars covered by them also. (most recent was 2 month back Ice Blue RX-7 From Aurora,IL my name is listed under props) "Samad" also last Sunday our CRX just got shot for Modified Magizine. Look for that in the next few months.
What do you need to do? To get sponsored you first need to make a proposal for your car. Do a search on yahoo.com or google.com on this you will find how to make one.
A few tips:
NEVER e-mail your proposal! snail mail it. UNLESS They ask for it on e-mail.
Make a gernal proposal so you can add the companies names in before you print them. This make it look like you wrote it just for them. :D
DO NOT staple your proposal. get it bind you may also want to burn it on a CD also. ALWAYS Send a PRINTED COPY!
Who do you mail them to? Once you print this out on a GOOD color LASER printer. Call the company and get the marketing manager/sponsorship person's name. (Full Name) and mail it out.
Taking pictures of your car. Almost Everyone messes this up! YOU DO NOT I repeat DO NOT! take picture where the backgound is all pretty. You are not trying to get the background sponsored! If your car is a darker color I.e. Black, Navy Blue and so on. Get a light color background. You want to look for a old buildings just look for the most crappest background you can. For sample look in a Super Street or other mags. Why do you do this? This way Your car will stand out not the background. The best time is mostly around sunset or a litte before that. here is my brother's car to give you an idea.
This was shot for HCI Mag.
I hope this gives you an idea and helps out.
