It's all different, based on age, location, car, even grade affects it.

agreed...16 and a 240? honestly, shouldn't be getting his own car. he's probably gonna think he's all DK and and wreck it in less than a year. no offense, just saying. tell him to get a 2000 civic si instead.

and FWIW, i got my 240 when i was 23, with the bare minimum insurance ran me 2300 a year. yes...over 2k a year for bare minimum insurance under my own name. but that's because i'm in NYC. once i hit 25 earlier this year, down to 1200 a year with medium coverage.

if he really wants it, tell your parents to put the car under their name, so the insurance is less.

just tell him to go to the insurance websites:

www.geico.com (http://www.geico.com)
www.progressive.com (http://www.progressive.com)
www.statefarm.com (http://www.statefarm.com)
www.allstate.com (http://www.allstate.com)

etc...etc...and do an online quote for himself. fill out all info honestly and get a live quote right then and there on their website.

whats wrong with a 240 as a first car. its not a hard to car to drive, doesnt have much power. sounds like a good car to start with. my first car was a 240sx, i never had a problem

My insurance went down from my first car... I'm 17 in So Cal pay around 60/month on my 95 240sx, I do get good student discounts so maybe that makes a difference. But its an old car shouldnt be too bad as long as he doesnt get pulled over

I bought my 240 when I was 16... insurance was 1100 a year. Havent totaled it yet lol. I think they're a good first car, as long as you aren't reckless. Pretty slow stock, good handling, cheap aftermarket, relatively easy to work on. What more could you want? Get good grades and don't crash (into anyone else!) and your insurance will drop pretty fast (down to 800ish annual fee this year ;] ) I say go for it, except I'd recommend an S13 because they're cheaper and more nissan-y looking. S14s just look bland to me.

Well for my s13 it's about 2400 a year and I have a clean record.. But im 19 which him being 16 will probably be the same maybe less maybe more all depends on the company. I think a Kouki might be more to insure? But i'm not to sure.

nothing wrong with it. mine is my first car too.

just wondering why out of all the cars out there to choose from, it's gotta be a 240, let along a kouki. if anything get him an s13. cheaper, and you won't feel bad if he wrecks it.

its certainly a better idea to insure under the parents name if hes that young. i was 17 when i got my 99 eclipse. due to the fact that i had good grades in hs and my dad has been with geico for so long, he was paying like 70 a month for about 2 years before it...well died. but now i have an s14 and the rates havnt rly changed that much.

itll be higher probably for a 97 kouki as opposed to a 89-93 s13. all insurance companies will see is a 97 nissan sports car with a 16 year old behind the wheel lol - that may get pricey
