View Full Version : Stuttering when boost

Does anyone know what is going on with my sr?
When I depress the gas slowly to accelerate the car goes smoothly. But when I gun it the car starts stuttering around 2.5k-3.2k rpm then it will boost. This only happens most in 2nd and 3rd very rare in 4th and 5th and never 1st gear.
Another thing is something my boost guage read full boost but it doesn't feel like am going anywhere.
Any help/suggestion would be great.
I forgot to mention that if i slowly accelerate passed 3k rpm then punch it the car goes into full boost smoothly.

nearly same exact thing happened with my SR, but around 4k-4.5k... i'm assuming you're running stock boost?
The problem for me was spark timing. get a shop to do it, or if you've done timing on a timing light before, get a spark plug, cut off the distributor-end (with enough wire to plug into the coil pack). plug good end onto spark plug, put other end into coil pack. voila, you have a lug wire between the coil pack and spark plug, and can hook up your timing light to that and set the spark timing via the CAS (Cam Angle Sensor).
at least that's how it's supposed to work :D I've never used a timing light but this is how I've been told by a couple sources.

Yes, I'm running stock boost. Sorry for the stupidity but can any shop do this or it has to be one of those tuning shop that do SRs. Do you have any picture of what you said in your previous post? Pictures would really help me out.
Will getting new spark plugs alone without doing that mod solve it? What kind of plugs would you recommend since u had this problem and probably solved it. What kind of plugs are you using? (model, heat range, etc)

is there a proper way to remove the MAF to check/clean? I really don't want to remove it and after reinstalling the car won't start/run :( I've never touch the MAF before so any info would be nice.
Thanks again for trying to help me out.

pretty much any shop that can set spark timing on a coil-on-plug car (e.g. 300ZX) should be able to do it. sorry, don't have pics, a shop did mine :D was like $31...
