Dont quote me on this, but based on other tensioners (RB/1J/2J etc.), once your fit the tensioner there should be a small pin you pull. Once pulled the chain will then tighten up.

Its my first sr20 i have rebuild. I have done i couple of hondas. When you install honda timing belt there is no slack on the cams. The slack is by the tensioner.

See ref 13070. I believe the pin mentioned should be on this part.

That looks about right. Have you put the CAS in yet? Once you do that, it will make up for a little slack, but the chain does sag inbetween the cams on the SR. It will tighten up once the engine is running. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I was thinking the same thing when I did my cams a few months ago, but its all good.

As long as you have the right links on the mating marks or the cams are position in the right spot relative to the chain, it doesn't matter.

Due to the pressure on the cams, the one cam sometimes likes to rotate a little bit towards the middle, creating some slack.

This is okay, as long the corresponding cam sprocket has rotated with the chain, so that the links are in the right spots on the sprockets.

I finish install the cams. everything looks good but when i rotated the motor the 2 gray links on the cam sprockets won't line up in the timing marks. but when i put the crank on the tdc mark 2nd from the left. count the links on the chain and its 20 links that mine timing is good right????

You do know it's gonna take a lot of rotating to get the gray marks on the chain to line up @ TDC again! It could take up to 60 full rotations!

You have to make sure The gray marks line up @ TDC at least 2 more times! Keep rotating the crank, it's gonna be a while!

Shouldve searched for this earlier, now I stripped one of my cam cap stud. Put the cams on and off like 100x trying take the slack out. I thought timing was still off. Damn!
