View Full Version : tips for getting the most out of your 2871r?

i'm wondering what you guys are doing to make the most of your your 2871r setups. right now i'm running (the main stuff) a 2871r, 550's, tomei 256 poncams, tomei reytec ecu, fmic. the bottom end is stock.
right now i'm running into detonation (not leaning out) at anything higher then 17-18 psi on 94 octane.
i see a bunch of people around running 20-22 psi and i'm wondering what these people are doing to combat detonation.

Bigger cams, a real tune, bigger injectors , greddy intake manifold, etc...
get a wideband and those 550 injectors will probly max out at 16-17psi on stock fuel pressure with that turbo.

550's and a 2871r are perfect for each other. i'm not even close to maxing them out.
"a real tune" makes no sense. maybe you don't know what reytec is?
i'm not to keen of switching to anything bigger then 256's b/c i'm on an s14 sr and i would prefer to keep my vvt.
i'm really trying to just find a way to prevent detonation. is anyone using a meth injection kit on a their drift cars?

I've seen folks max out 550s on S15 turbos, you probably are pushing those injectors to its max. I was running 740cc injectors with my GT2871R, pushing 1.3 to 1.5 bar with no issues on an Enthalphy rom tune with a SAFC piggy backed to lean out the map a lil.
PS: How do you know you're not maxing out the injectors? The 550cc with S15 turbo was showing 99% duty cycle on a PFC...

Why are you asking for help? If seems like you have your mind set already.
And you will max out the 550cc injectors before you max out the 2871r. I maxed out my 550cc injectors on my 2871r setup at 370 whp on a dynapac and that was around 90-95% duty cycle.
And he said a "real" tune not a "real" ecu. Reytec is good but I don't think many tuners are familiar with that ecu. And he said real tune meaning don't tune it yourself. Take it to a reputable tuner.
And you asked how to get the most out of your 2871. You won't with those 256 cams.

And then there is a 56 page long thread here on zilvia on the 2871r turbo. It pretty much spells it out for you to where you can copy someone's setup and make the same hp. 2871r is the most played out turbo and is proven again and again. It's not that hard.
Just to reiterate - 550's are not enough to max out a 2871r. I maxed out my 525cc STi injectors with my 2876R and only ~15-16 psi towards redline.

alright, point taken. the reason i said i wasn't close to maxing out the 550's was on my ecu interface on the dyno i'm seeing like 75-80% duty at 17psi. based on that i assumed i had a lot more to go.
