ok i'm trying to figure this out it was posted by somebody in this board but i don't get it.
With a VLSD with the ABS sensor on the front the trick with the driveshaft is to reverse your driveshaft bolts. i.e. the driveshaft bolts are collared on the diff side i.e. a smooth surface with no threads it is exactly long enough that if you put the bolts in backwards i.e. the collar on the driveshaft side it pulls the driveshaft back just far enough for clearance.
also, how much fluid do i put in the j30 vlsd?
thanks in advance.

FSM says the capacity is 2.5 to 3 US Pints.

I don't understand the quote either. The driveshaft is as long as it is regardless of which way you put the bolts in.

BTW- I installed a J30 diff over the winter and the driveshaft thing wasn't an issue.

I just measured the differential and it's 5/8" bigger, i'm thinking of just sticking it in there but i want to know if there is another choice besides cutting the driveshaft.

I tilted the diff down by placing washers between the subframe and the mounts at the "nose" of the diff. Seemed to help a bit.
