So I just installed a DOHC s13 alternator in my s14, its a 80amp one and thats the one I needed. Everything is fine but when I turn on the A/C, voltage goes from 14v to 12v (on the battery) and I get a high pitched squeeling for a couple of seconds and then it stops.
Is it a weak alternator?

Belts are loose or you have oil on the belts so they're slippin. Either way they're slipping and you need to tighten them down or fix a leak.

Compressor also may not be spinning either, see if it's engaging first or potentially siezed. I'd say it's probably wet/loose belt, but ya neve rknow

True you are right Cody, however, seeing as how many posts he has and how he has not mentioned anything at all to what he has done to diagnose it or narrow it down I took it into my own hands to break it down barney style for him and start from stone one before he starts looking at anything further. Lol.

I just had this problem not only was it lose but the belt was toast too so i replaced the belt and the sound went away.....O and sometimes it is the compressor too I had a compressor start doing that on my truck then it locked up you might want to service your ac if you haven't in a long time a quick oil charge is way cheaper then a compressor ..Good luck

Lol sorry I should've gone further in depth.
The belts tight but its the original one, so maybe you guys are right, it may be time to replace it.
The compressor seems fine and I didn't hear a peep before I replaced the alternator.
