Ok, so I bought a starter for my SINGLE CAM motor, ka24e, the one that they sell at autozone and they fit single and dual cam, so I looked at the shaft where the rotor spins, and my oem one (is now broken) the shaft is like 3 inches smaller than the autozone one, and when I try installing the autozone one, it just doesn't fit correctly, and it hits the back of the starter housing, i tried just forcefully bolting it in hoping it would stay in place, but that was pretty fail, any help on this please? And i've checked MULTIPLE sites and every single site sells the exact same starter for single/dual cam, and I'm just confused cause this thing doesn't fit at ALL =/, autozone part number 16928 i think :P any help appreciated :wiggle:

sounds like they gave you the wrong part. Take it back and bring your old one with you to verify they give you the correct part

no im like 100% sure this is the right part, just for some reason it doesn't fit on my single cam? my friend said he bought a starter from autozone and it popped right into his nicely, and he said he bought the same one as me, maybe im mounting it wrong or something?

I recently had to do the same thing. The part number sounds right so what exactly is the problem? getting it in the right spot? or what?

yah cause the bolts that mount the oem starter slide right through the bolts allowing for good fitment, and when you put the autozone one on, the mounting bolts can barely go screw on, feedback please!!

So every other time you bought the correct part from autozone did it fit correctly? If yes, then im pretty sure you have the wrong part. I have bought stuff from autozone that was in the box with the correct part number on it, but the part inside the box was for a different car completely. Also, lets face it, the people who work at car part stores arent perfect.

lol the thing is, i am 100% sure this is the right part, ive looked at numerous sites that sell starters, and this one is EXACTLY the same as the other ones, they all say that they are supposed to fit ANY year 240sx with a ka24e/de, maybe theres something wrong with my housing ? cause the oem starter, is a big fat black starter, that has a very small rotor opening

Well FYI...I did an Auto to 5spd swap....I found out the Auto Tranny has shorter bolts....I went to Pic A part and pulled the bolts off of a 5spd....and they were like 1/2 inch difference....

when you did the swap did u have to switch the starters? or did u just keep the one on the car when it was auto? and yah i have 4 bolts, 2 for the old starter and 2 for the new, and 2 of them r shorter than the others

I kept the same starter..... I followed the How to threads on 5speed swaps....
Nobody bothered to mention the different bolt sizes....I spent an hour trying to get it to line up....I then pulled out a tape measure and came to the conclusion that I had the wrong bolts....
So I took one of the bolts with me to PIC A PART (Junkyard) and found a Tranny still attached to a beater 240.....I took the top bolt off and compared them....and you could easily see the difference....
I went home and finished up the swap...and started the car right up.....:)
P.S. I was in Vegas for the first week of this month.....its been 10yrs since I was last there.....and wow I was like burned out by the 3rd day....WOW what a never ending party.....

same for me, i was finishing my 5 speed swap and couldn't bolt the starter up and i finally figured out it was the length of them, got the 5 speed bolts, bolted right up.

oh sick, when you put the 5 speed bolts on the starter did it slide in through the holes? or did it have resistance when screwing them in?

I had the same problem, I returned it, then went to o I Reilly's and got one from them, shaped a little different meaning it was perfect fitmet. Not sure why but it worked.
