Are the NVCS or not? If they are, are you willing to do $575 for the cams and pivots shipped?

JSimpson

Will not do 575 shipped. Will do 650 shipped (i will cover paypall fees) if you take both. Also IIRC NVCS is only on the RB25 series of motors, whereas the S14 and S14 SR motors have VTC, basically the same thing, but no, when you run anything over a 256 intake cam you cannot run VTC. These are a 270 so you just dont run VTC on the S14 or S15 motor...

Hmmm, that's funny Tomei says otherwise. Either way, GLWS...

He is correct as stated. When running cams that are greater than 260 you will not be able to run vtc. I think that is the reason why Tomei came out with the 260 cams unlike most company who just have 264.

Then I guess their product sheet is wrong?

No thats wrong, I have the 270's NVCS lash Type, NVCS works fine too!

OK in all honesty to all of you guys in this cam debate, it doesnt matter whether or not NVCS or VTC is still in function, NO ONE with any hint of common sense would 'slap' 270 SOLID cams in their VTC stockish head! it would run like $hit! You have to degree them in with cam gears regardless and why in the hell would you want VTC with an already lumpy overlapping Cam? its simple, you wouldnt. Solid lifters with solid cams isnt a minor upgrade by anymeans

Throwing different cams in there doesn't mean anything. VTC/NVCS/Whatever the hell you want to call it still increases low-end trq no matter what type cam is in there. Therefore, in a street oriented car you would want them in there. Best of both worlds, low-end grunt with the ability to flow up top.

What's the part number on the intake cam box?

No dude VTC only helps up top. It advances the Intake cam which is beneficial on turbo motors especially in upper revs with boost (hence why it kicks in at a high RPM)
The tag on the side of the Intake cam box says 1433 270125 LOT 7074 SR20 IN(NVCS) 270-12.5 SP
All high lift, long duration cams hurt low end, in no way will this be beneficial to low end grunt. The more overlap and agressive cam profile, more lope, less low end drivability... Now they do help the turbo spool but still... SRs have poor low end non-stroked regardless of what you do with them...

Dude, no offense, but I don't think you know how VTC works, because you're wrong... VTC runs from 1500-5700rpm's. It helps make low end torque on the S14/S15 motors. I have an S14 motor and made a peak of 315ft/lbs at 4700rpms, and made over 250ftlbs from 4k to 7400rpms. You can see a dip in the dyno where the VTC actually shuts off at 5200rpms, kind of like a Honda's VTEC, but not the same. I'll post the dyno if you want.

shit man you are right! I looked into it and it was explained to me wrong from the guy I bought my car from. Everyone seems to think this VTC stuff is like VVL/VTEC/VVTI but its not at all. You are correct it appears to be aimed to decrease overlap up top by switching off at 5700 like you say. Well man you can always unhook the solenoid... You really need to get cam gears though with the SR20s to degree the cams in properly. Whereas an EVO 4G63 doesn't need them because they bolt in degreed almost perfectly.

Degreeing only needs to happen if the cam's centerline is off a huge amount. Some cam manufactures cam's are better than others and don't need degreeing, others need quite a bit. On the S14/S15, I'd only degree the exhaust cam and let the intake(VTC) do it's thing.

I'm still interested in the setup, but not for $650... LMK what you can do.

Well according to Mazworx who is arguably the best SR builder out there, you have to use cam gears to degree even the best SR cams in. Make me a more reasonable offer and I will consider it.

Does the fuel rail include injectors?
If so how do they ohm?

JSimpson

fuel rail doesnt include injectors! just the rail caps, and bolts. Will do $35 shipped on rail with OEM FPR
