hey guys
i just installed a studdy antenna to replace the long antenna that retracts... my only thing is that after i replaced it, the radio signal isn't as strong anymore, i beleive it's probably because it's not getting powered. any ideas on how to rectify the issue? i looked at the fsm but, i don't really get it either, not sure what g/w means. does that mean green/white wire? my head unit has a blue wire that is to the antenna, where would i hook that up?
my car is a 97 240sx base model if that matters
thanks in advanced

oh have that same problem...I have mine on the stock position but that antena gives me bad signal/ low signal. i have a 90 s13 se.
this thread would really help me out too...and my head unit does have the blue wire but mine is for the power motor for antenna i think...
i still have the stock long one =/

Use the Power Antenna lead from the radio or use the 12v switched.

i have the s2000 styled antenna too, i plugged it in, i do get a signal but the stations i could normally listen to crystal are no longer crystal clear a lil distortion here and there.
stupid q, but where are they perhaps a pic? where is the 12v switched?
thanks

what???? the antena that you guys are talking about isnt powered....as in its not motorized...y would u add 12V switched or constant etc...
Fixed antenas dont require 12V they only "catch" radio frequencies and transmit them through the antena cable to the head unit.....

mounted in the stock location where the long oem one was.

is there any way to make the signal perhaps better? or adding power to it to amplify the signal or something? just some noob thoughts not sure if they have any merit.

just googled S2K antena and noticed that there is a "signal booster" on the antena.. in that case you would need 12V for it to operate.
do you have just the "stalk" portion of the antena? or the complete unit???

is the stalk only the plastic rod? i think i have the complete unit, it has the base and stubby antenna.

this is all the connectors that are coming out of the antenna base, the black one is to connect to the radio, the red wired one i don't know what that was i just plugged it in from the old long metal antenna base. figured it fit and it seemed like it was supposed to do that.
it's not an oem s2000 antenna also if that helps, it was back in the day when these just came out it was like some kinda copy cat.
thanks

www.LoCustom.com (http://www.locustom.com/shark2_kit.htm)
this is the antenna i bought a long time ago
http://www.locustom.com/pdf/Shark%20attack%20instructions.pdf
so, how would "splice this?"
would i still need it to connect to the original antenna plug that it's currently plugged into? and cut the wire?
or would i just cut off the red part and connect it all the way to the aftermarket head unit to the "blue wire" which is for powering antenna i believe, it just says antenna but im thinking it means to power the antenna when radio is on.
thanks

well i just fixed mine thank you all for helping.
what i did was left everything the same as you can see in the pics. didn't cut those.
the antenna connector that goes to the head unit, well mine also had the "power" wire connected to it, so i just spliced that in with the "blue" wire into my head unit, which is for the "antenna power"
and voila all fixed.
hope this is helpful to whomever needs it in the future.

blu means it provides a small amount of power to turn something on, like most cases a relay for a device.
Depending on how much current the amplifier of the antenna uses, you might be able to use the blu as a power source. You will have to check how much current (Amps) the radio can send through the blu, but if you can't find info then wire it to a relay and have the relay power up the antenna. Google if you need to know how to wire a relay.
That's all the info I can give you on the blu wire

cuz i think blue wiere moves the stock antenna up and keeps it up...so might just be enough right?
