Alright, so I have a 89 hatch and got a complete dash and an s13 hud cluster from a coupe. Has anyone on here installed the cluster into a hatch? I've found some guides on how to do it.. I just want to make sure it works from people who've done it before I start ripping my dash and cluster out.. to find out it doesn't work well, or at all. My idea is just remove my current hatch dash and cluster, and replace it with the s13 dash and cluster.. should be just plug and play no? I've got the wiring harness, the windshield display unit thing.. and the digital cluster.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks ahead of time.

you can always located the main harness to from your old cluster and plug all the necessary harness for the HUD cluster before ripping it apart.

theres an DIY here or nico i stroll through awhile ago.

If you have the HUD dash, projector, cluster and wire harness then you are fine its just plug and play. I did a digital cluster but without the projector & HUD dash without any issues as long as you have the harness.

So I might have to replace my tach? I have the SOHC KA, I'll have to check when I get home.. but I'm pretty sure the tach is for a DOHC.. will it matter? They say just to swap tach for tach, is it true?

should work for both honestly because most digital clusters came in single cam cars but dont quote me on that because my buddies car was a single cam originally & it worked & mine is a twin cam & it works too.

I was under the impression that a SOHC tach will read a DOHC engine's revs twice as fast as it should, and I assume the opposite is true of a SOCH with a DOHC tach. (rev half as much as it should)

I would replace them just to be safe, but I am known for being horrible with wiring and electronics, so don't quote me! lol

^ Lol, me too.. which is why I asked here to begin with.

I've got both tach's so it won't matter.. and I don't really care what it's redline says.. I'm not a noob. So, I guess I'll leave it.. plug it in and try it.. then switch it otherwise if it doesn't work properly.. thanks for all the help guys.

most digital clusters came in single cam cars

correction, digital hud clusters only came in 89-90 coupes. it was a factory option package (power convenience group)

I didn't get a chance to dig the digital hud out to check the redline on the tach, but if your right.. then the tach should match my car perfectly? I drive an 89 hatch. I shouldn't have to swap the tachs then?

not unless you've swapped in a DE or SR, both the motors are sohc so the tach should match up perfectly..the HUD only controls the speedometer..as for the dash they're both s13 so they should fit perfectly, the only difference is that one has a trunk and one has a hatch.

Where the fuck you getting your info?

I have pulled out DOHC Digi tachs from 91-93 Coupes.

Matter of fact I have swapped them in Hatches too.

OP:

This is what you need:

Projector and Cover
HUD Cluster
HUD Subharness

Unbolt the Steering Column Cover
Unbolt upper and Lower Steering Column
Remove screws from Cluster Bezel
Unplug Buttons
Remove Bezel
Remove Cluster
Cut Ziptie Holding in Analog Subharness
Remove Subharness
Plug in HUD Subharness

and reverse the rest of the steps.

Of course if you do not have a HUD dash, you can cut out that portion. While I have never gone this route, it is said the template it on the underside.

IDK if the Cluster Bezels between Analog and Digital are the same, but my Digi Cluster always fit REALLY snug with the analog bezel.

STOP SPREADING MIS INFO.

Yeah, I knew everything 'should' fit, just wanted to verify with people who know 100%. Nothing gayer then ripping apart the car to find out you wasted your time and it doesn't fit. :D :D

And thanks again everyone for the solid info.

hey no problem man. lmk if you have any questions. shouldnt take you more then a hr MAYBE a hr and a half for someone not completely fluent with removing the cluster.

Goodluck.
