Rebuilding alternator, anyone here done it?

So I'm rebuilding my s14 alternator and it looks like you can't replace the brushes themselves, but instead you have to replace the entire assembly? Is this true or am I doing something wrong?

I'm sure someone on here has done it, so some insight would be awesome!!

I've tried to rebuild an S13 one and the brushes are not replaceable.

i had both my s14 alternators rebuilt by a local alternator shop. they had no problems doing so. i even told him it was out of a JDM car. and i am being told you use ka brushes... but don't quote me on the last part.
