1971 Datsun 240z with full ZG exterior conversion for sale!

I’m switching projects, so this amazing “ZG” is now for sale.
While it isn’t a show car, it is an amazingly fun driver that gets lots of attention.
This is a great base on which to build an extremely nice vintage JDM-styled Z, as most of the major modifications are already completed.

Price: $7,500

Location: Bay Area, CA

Motor:
- L28 swap
- Rebuilt Z Therapy SU round top dual carburetors
- Black powder coated intake manifold
- Black powder coated valve cover (just painted, not installed)
- Rebello 480 camshaft, new springs and lash pads (17,000 on motor, mileage unknown on chassis)
- Performance header and custom exhaust system with Borla muffler
- MSD blaster and 6AL ignition upgrade
- Electric thermo-controlled radiator fan
- External Earl’s oil cooler with stainless braided lines and AN fittings
- New battery

Drivetrain:
- 5 speed transmission swap
- Recently replaced clutch
- New clutch slave cylinder

Suspension:
- Eibach Pro-kit (BNIB, not installed)
- Newly replaced brake master, booster, and rear slave cylinder
- Stainless Steel brake lines front and rear
- Front vented 4x4 brake caliper upgrade
- MSA front strut bar
- Nissan Quest extended front wheel stud upgrade

- PLEASE NOTE: Car will not come with the Watanabe wheels pictured, but will come with 15” XXR 002s wrapped in fairly new rubber

Interior:
- NOS seats
- NOS door panels
- Power window conversion
- Push start button
- MSA wood shift knob
- Grant steering hub and wheel
- CD/stereo player with trunk speakers

Exterior:
- Burgundy re-spray, including engine bay, door jams, trunk sill
- All exterior chrome pieces and trim painted matte black
- Side markers shaved
- ZG fender flares front and rear
- Full “gnose” front end conversion with rare and ultra expensive headlight covers
- Clear front turn signal lenses
- Hood vents with underside functional heat shields
- Vented inspection pop-up lids

Things to note:
- Car was painted two owners ago, and sadly the previous owner did not maintain the paint very well. There are spots where the paint is cracking, most notably around the hood vents, rear hatch sill, and passenger side rear upper quarter panel. There is also a spot where the paint has thinned out on the front passenger side hood sill. The body seems very straight, and the panels are dent free, however the paint issues should be addressed by the next owner to really make the car shine.
- Underneath the passenger side foot well is dented and has surface rust. It honestly looks a lot worse in the pictures than in person. The dents are not noticeable from the interior.
- Carbs should be professionally tuned. I purchased the car and transferred the title from Kansas, where the carbs were setup to run in the area of the previous owner. I have since used a synchro guage, Z Therapy’s carb tuning DVD, and the Haynes manual to retune and sync the carbs. The motor starts right up, however idles rough until it warms.
- Transmission pops out of reverse occasionally. This seems to be a common problem and is more annoying than anything else.
- Speedometer bounces at below 30 mph. I haven’t looked into this; however it is most likely a simple fix with the speedo gear on the swapped 5 speed. All other gauges work.
- Brake pedal is mushy. This is a common problem when upgrading the front calipers and would be fixed with an upgrade to the 280zx master cylinder.
- This is a vintage car from the early 70’s. Be prepared to tinker with it in your spare time, but know that your time and effort will be rewarded with the look and feel of driving around in a true Japanese legend.

Bump!

Not many of these gnose Zs around yet in the vintage scene!
Would look really killer slammed with some wide Watanabe wheels on it.

Just for my personal reference, what size were your Wat's and tire size?

GLWS, these cars are a complete joy to drive and own and one of the coolest old school cars you can own in the states.

Thanks!

If that is your Z in the sig, it looks amazing!

The Wats are 15x9 -13 with 195/50/15 Yokohama S-Drives. They are borrowed from my Corolla. I personally would go even wider for a Z, but a lot of people stateside don't go past 9" wide.

I hear yea, its getting harder to find old school wide wheels these days, even harder to find wide tires that aren't drag specific when you do finally get a wide set lol. And yes that's my little money pit.

BTW the black window trim looks great in contrast to the fender flares and Wats. I was too busy analyzing the car that I didn't even realize the sweet looking house behind it hahaha.

Thanks for all the positive comments!
You've actually convinced me to keep the car and finish my build.

Thus, car is no longer for sale!
Unless you want to pay above my asking price for it.

I do the same thing about once a month with my '75 Celica. I recently bumped my FS thread on here, then ordered a front lip the same night.

Good luck with it man, looks like it's worth hanging onto.
