hello,
2nd half of swap begins, but i have a few questions:
1. i want to deal with my power steering later so i just want to disactivate it for now, i should just remove the belt right? and i have a 90 240sx, to make the swap why do i need new lines and a new reseviour? i could understand why i would need one new line to make it accross the car to the other side, but why would i need a new resivour? looking at it, it seems like i COULD make it all connect with only getting ONE new line. and how can i figure out if i have hicas P/S pump?
2. my car didn't have AC before the swap and i don't want it now, to disactivate it i would just remove the belt but the belt seems to also go over another pulley, what is this pulley for? can i just remove it all? and how can i remove the AC?, i am esspesially worried about letting chemicals into the atmosphere.
thank you!

1) Dont want AC, dont use it. Disconnect the belt. Common motor knowledge would be to look at what the belt connects to. It connects from the main crank pulley to the AC pulley. Its as simple as disconnecting that belt.
2) Power steering. The SOHC components from what I hear are useless, so dont use the PS from your SOHC.. just remove them all and deal with it later.

thanks mike but you seemed to just rephrase my initial question, and missed the main parts ;), my concern was with the AC; the belts goes around main crank, AC and another one that i don't know the purpose... what is the other one??
if it was just main crank to AC i would remove it, just like i mentioned with the PS pump.

WRONG!
Anyways, power steering isnt much of a hassle with sohc or dohc parts, but if you REALLY want to eliminate it, the procedure is to remove the belt, and you have to disconnect the two hardlines on either side of the rack and turn the wheel from side to side to get the fluid out, which is pretty messy.
Its almost as much work to eliminate it, as it is to set it up with the SR.

yeah it seems i'm only missing 2 parts to finish it, but it's the money and the getting of those parts that is the problem ... oh well, i plan to fix it up soon enough, and does anyone know what else the belt is touching??

Whaddya mean wrong? To use the SOHC lines PS components, you have to braise the lines, no? Thats work that I wouldnt want to do.. thats just me.
Then again, thats work that I will never do.. because I hate power steering and removed it many moons ago. But then again, thats just me.. I'm a sucker for excellent road feel and dont mind putting fourth the extra muscle (god knows I need the workout anyway).
As for the AC, its as simple as taking off the belt. The other pulley is the idler pulley, isnt it? I cant really remember, I removed the PS and AC off of my motor. ****, I only have one belt.. hehe if I didnt need an alternator I would have 0 belts.

alright, an idler eh? well if you don't use it and have no problem then i will also remove it, thank you.

i think you should be able just to connect the two hoses on the back of the engine, this way you don't stop the flow by plugging.
here in canada ... it's needed.

You dont have to braise anything. The write up is on sr20 hybrids.
I did it without the engine in the car, and it took me all of 5 minutes.

Duffman is right. Sheesh, Mamos...you're on Hybrids all the time, right? Don't you read the installs? :D
My setup is even simpler, albeit more ghetto. We just used the SOHC lines and rerouted them in a custom way to their new home on the driver's side strut tower. No cutting or braizing. Just twist and clamp. :) It's been like that for 15k now.

does this mean you got a resivour from a 91+ or just moved the original resivour?

you can simply remove the ps and a/c belts on the sohc, but you can't on the dohc. I have done it on the dohc, but it required a custom alternator bracket. on the sohc any extra pulleys are just tensioner stuff.

You just move the original. You dont even have to drill new holes for it, just use the old AIV holes.
It literally takes 5 minutes.

i don't understand your post, i am not removing the belt on the alternator just the two others; the one that simply goes to the PS, and the other that goes to the AC and around .. an idler?, how could these being removed be a problem, and don't forget this is a SR not sohc.

He's talking about KA's, which is causing some confusion.
