Hey guys i have been trying to use the search form for this but cant dig anything up on it my sr20 started chatering the other day and it blows a puff of wight smoke out of the little filter i have coming off of the valve cover plz i need help with this b4 it really gets hurt :sadwavey:

throw out bearing maybe? thats my best guess.
does it make the sound all the time or just when the clutch pedal isnt pushed down?

Man its odd it dos it no mater what and its got plenty of oil in it and now my oil light came on but it comes on and off its so dam odd

so why would it only chatter at mid throttle?

clogged oil squirters? u could pull the valve cover and check for marks on the cams. guess that would depend on what the noise really sounds like though. i'm sure you can find a vid on youtube for the oil squirter problem and see if the noise is the same.

you sure its not a rod knock? if it is a light rod knock like the one my sr had it sounds more like a slaping sound at first before it really takes a dump. my sr would idle fine then once it reved higher you would start hearing it. i turned it off and didnt run it again... your best bet also till you find the problem

ok guys it sounds just like clogged oil squirters now how do i check them and or fix it first time doing engine work on a sr20 i know i know neb right

yeah i was super paranoid about oil starvation issues when i got my SR, i cleaned out my oil pick up and took off my oil squirters and cleaned those out really good too, its the noise rev dependent? like as the RPM increases does the sound get more violent?

i mean pretty much after that i would pull the motor out and tear it down to see whats gone terribly wrong, did u drain ur oil to check for metal shavings??

yep and it is clean i think it is the oil squirters because after watching that video on you tube it is the same sound im hearing and that might be why my oil light is kicking on and off

yeah but that noise is metal on metal i'm guessing so i don't know if cleaning those will necessarily get you out of the woods, i guess try it out and see what happens, good luck to ya

from what you've been describing its sounded like somethings gonna break. I've had that experienced with my 1st s13 back in 2002 which until now I don't know jack shit about lol:duh:. Started with the same exact symptoms you were describing then all hell broke lose while driving on the freeway. i was running on 2 cylinders.........rest is history. So a park the car have a car doctor look at it for your safety....
