I just bought my first trailer for my S13. I'm looking for a winch for those occasional break downs and to haul it to my tuner etc. when I'm by myself.

Assuming the car weighs 2700lbs, gutted, 5g. fuel cell, RB...figure stock weight is a decent estimate.

Would a 3000lb winch be enough to safely pull it onto the trailer? I know it'll pull the weight on level ground, but what about up the ramps?

Is there anything else I should consider?

you'll want something with a roller fairlead that runs on 12v.

Camouflage 12 Volt 3000 Lb. Capacity Wireless Remote Controlled Portable Winch with Roller Fairlead (http://www.harborfreight.com/camouflage-12-volt-3000-lb-capacity-wireless-remote-controlled-portable-winch-with-roller-fairlead-95912.html)

For the occasional pulling this will work fine. Get one with the remote so you can push from the back and steer while it pulls. I've used their smaller 2000lb winch for my bmw 2002 which weighs about 2100lbs. It wouldn't pull it up the ramps alone but if I pushed some it came right up.

if you don't mind the crawling speed you can loop the cable through a pulley on the front of the car and pull it up at half speed effectively doubling the load rating. Works great.

Oh and weld in a mount. Don't bolt one in. It won't hold. Trust me.

Exactly the one I was looking at.

Very good idea, I will definitely look into that.

Good to know...I was gonna bolt it.

This can probably be closed...I think that's all I needed to know!

Many thanks!

When I was in college, I used to date this filthy wench named Terri.
If I saw her in the road on my way by, I wouldn't bother not running over her.
