ive searched quite a bit and cant find an answer to my issue

keep in mind guys...ive had an SR for almost 10 years now...ive had 5 S13s and i am very well versed with tearing these things apart and rebuilding them...so im not a noob to all of this...im just kinda stumped on this one

so with that said...i picked up a 92 S13 with a Blacktop swap (S13 blacktop)...weird noise was coming from tranny...only happend in first and reverse...thought it was the tranny (turned out to be the clutch...but doesn really have anything to do with post)...the SR tranny wasnt leaking...it was dry as a bone...i swapped a SINGLE CAM KA tranny on to the bellhousing and put it back on my SR...tranny started leaking at the back where the driveshaft meets the transmission...sooo i went to nissan and got a new rear shaft seal...and also replaced the inner shift boot on the rod of the shifter (where the shifter meets the tranny)...ziptied both bottom and top of the boot...and yet the tranny is STILL leaking

it seems to be collecting around the driveshaft dust ring pretty bad (the plastic thing around where the shaft meets the tranny)...i cleaned the tranny up on tuesday when i was under the car replacing my slave cynlinder that exploded in my drive way to see if i cant see if its coming from somewhere OTHER than the rear of the trans

but yeah...after replacing the both the rear tranny seal and the inner shift boot on the shifter...im stumped...its not coming from where the tranny and bellhousing meet (i had to swap the KA tranny onto the SR bellhousing...its sealed up like a champ)...im half tempted to put the SR tranny back on as this is driving me nuts!!! (one can only clean his driveway so many times before wanting to punch a tree hugging hippy...or the president of the HOA)

input would be appreciated guys :)

i actually had this same problem with my rear shaft seal replaced it and it still leaked so i pulled it back out read up on it and reinstalled with an extremly small bead of silicone on it and never had a problem since i mean idk if you wanna do that but it worked for me its kinda permanent though you know

Another possible source of leak is the sensors. Sometimes they'll leak through the sensor.

if you pull the driveshaft out, it will leak oil out that way so i suspect that the part where the driveshaft goes in is loose causing it to leak. you might have to replace the bell housing again or the second portion of it

i checked the inside of the input shaft area on the tranny and it didnt look like any was scared up

one thing that popped up in my head...the gasget itself has 2 different sides...anyone know if the side that is beveled inwards with the small spring/ribbed looking insides is supposed to face inwards or outwards? (the otherside of the gasget is flat)

+1 to this problem.

Only slight leak though (very slight). I bought another seal, gonna try a touch of silicon I think.

what is the part # for both seals? The one where it connects to the driveshaft;,
and the other where it prevents gear oil from going into the cluth area/ where it meets the trans case.?

the seal between the transfer case and the bellhousing really doesnt have anything to with it...the outer shells of the casing are sealed with RTV compound...the seal inside the bellhousing uses a paper gasget along with RTV and has rubber seals around the bearings...its really rare for those to leak...but what im reffering to has nothing to do with leaking in that area of the transmission...the leak is coming from the back of the tranny section...not the bellhousing area (which is at the FRONT of the transmission)

I had the same problem. I wore out 3 tranny seal in the span of 2 mos. not really knowing whats causing that slow leak. I had an extra sr driveshaft which I also switched out thinking the other shaft is somewhat rough where it goes in the tranny. But heres the interesting part after the 3rd seal. I checked all possibilities and I noticed my oem tranny mount has hairline cracks and you can easily rock the tranny side to side. I was like damn thats whats causing the vibration. I went ahead bought a nismo tranny mount swapped it out. WALA!!!! no more vibration no more leak. Don't know for how long but hey no leak no vibration my sr's happy....=). I'm still using the stock motor mounts, maybe i'll switch those out too soon.
Goodluck

spring tension needs to be inward and make sure this seal is all the way in sitting flush and not crooked. You'll kinda feel it slip all the way in if you're using the right tool (seal driver kit from harbor the cheapest i found). Wrong tool can cause a small tear which is probably not visible just by looking at it. You kinda have to stretch the rubber to see. Also are you using 1pc driveshaft or the stock sr shaft? I've been told that 1pc does not hug the ring tightly like a condom you know what i mean....:ddog:
