Ur in NoHo..? Just let my brother and his professional van mounted carpet cleaning machine get it spic n span. He did mine and it looks amazing.. He'll probably charge you about the same that ur gonna spend on all the chemicals anyway.. And he'll be doing all the work. Holler @ me if u need more info. GL

a lot of carwashes have shampoo machines. those work pretty well, just make sure you run your a/c for a while and leave the windows down when parked to make sure it doesnt get moldy....shouldn't be a problem in august though lol.
Edit: Just realized carpet isn't in the car. you could probably get it done pretty easily with a wide brush type broom, a hose, and some carpet shampoo all on the driveway.
that's how i cleaned my trunk mat.

Just rent a carpet cleaner from your local hardware store, grocery store.. or Wal-Mart? It costs like 20$.. MAYBE with all the cleaning stuff.. worked well for me. Atleast this way it sucks most of the moisture back out of the carpet so it doesn't go moldy. I don't know how well letting water 'air dry' into your carpet would work.. pretty sure it would make it smell bad if it wasn't 110% dry going back into your car.

OXYCLEAN...
No joke, this is THE BEST course of action. Make a thick oxy clean soup and put the paste all over the carpet. Scrub it with a broom, use a horse hair brush where it's extra soiled. The dirt and oil will literally flow out when you hose it down.

Use carpet steam cleaning (http://carpetcleaningkings.com.au/carpet-cleaning-prices-brisbane/) machine, it will clean carpet within a seconds or hire carpet cleaners.

I have one of these. It works pretty good, I use it on seats and everything.
