I just bought an exhaust today and was told it was an old school HKS Exhaust but it had no markings. I found one link of it HKS Catback Install on a Nissan 240SX - My Pro Street (http://my.prostreetonline.com/t85.htm) which refers to it but can't find anything else. Anyone else or know about the old school HKS Exhaust for the S13?

Does not look like any aftermarket exhaust..

Maybe it is... but why did you pay $150 for that ????

I was thinking the same thing but in the pics from the link the stock exhaust looks much differant, i'm just trying to confirm if this thing actually existed or not, I can't trust that one HKS Exhaust Install link, since I can't find any more info on it

After looking at other old school HKS Exhausts i'm thinking it might be real here's a couple pics off the honda forums of real hks exhausts

it looks like the old "hks sport" to me. one of my friends had one on his s13 way way back in 1999. all i can remember is that it definitely was crappy looking mild steel and 2.25" piping.

If you look closely it looks like each piece has it's own name plate tact on.

Damn, you guys have no taste. If that is an authentic HKS, which it looks like it might be, then it's way cooler then your $150 3" POS exhaust. Of course it shouldn't be run on a turbo car, N/A only... I would rock it!

I dont think its old school. My buddy just got a brand new one from hks for a corolla. I think it looks cool.

HKS USA Sport Exhaust (more) (http://www.hksusa.com/products/more.asp?id=789)

It's probably a copy. With the different tips.

imma get some gaskets later today and try to install it tonight, i'm sure it'll sound better then the car does now which is stock piping with a hole in the muffer, piping , and resonator from rust haha.

This is what I am thinking. Shit I had one of those exhausts (HKS Sport) back in 2001 on my low mileage stock 91. R.I.P.

If I remember correctly it would say HKS somewhere on the exhaust. As they are pretty much into marking their exhausts with a stamped HKS or nameplate.

Hahaha. I was thinking the same thing. I'm old enough to remember this come out when they were brand new lol. I would so rock in this on an N/A.:bigok:

ok finally cleared this up, I went ahead and sent pics to HKS and spoke with them on the phone, they said it's real, there shouldn't be any HKS logo or part number on that particular exhaust it should be only on the box itself, also it came in a couple different tips.

I like the exhaust, I mean if this is a true HKS sport exhaust then thats great. I'm sure it will have a nice tone and won't attract unwanted attention.

I'd look for the name plates on yours... Those honda ones have name plates on each piece.

motorsporttc
08-12-2010, 02:14 PM
yeah I asked about it, it's not supposed to have a name plate they said, some came with the name plate but most of them didn't. I had them confirm with the pictures if it's authentic or not. When I brought up the idea if it was a copy he laughed and said "no one copies these, they look like stock"

Yes, that is an HKS exhaust. I have a weird thing for old school exhausts.

Still would love to obtain this one.

If it doesnt have any markings, i would say almost 100% its not a HKS.

How do I know???
I had one on my S13 in 1996. It said HKS on it.

In the end though, name brand doesnt mean shit, its the performance and sound you want out of it.
Oh, and to last about 2 years :)

motorsporttc
08-12-2010, 03:56 PM
haha if it is, must be a good fake enough to fool HKS even oh yeah BTW the one I have is for an S13, the more I read other peoples stories and HKS story. I don't know which is what, why would they tell me it doesnt have any HKS markings?? I even sent in the pictures and they guaranteed it was real. haha oh well whatever it is HKS or Not it better sound nice

Seriously, I agree with HKS USA (duh). WHO WOULD COPY THESE??? It's definitely not a very popular exhaust. I'd be happy to give the OP his $150 back for it though...

Even if it's not real. $150 is still cheaper than a OEM(style) replacement exhaust. So, it's a good deal to replace your rusted out stocker. Looks like a stock exhaust so, it's good for keeping a low profile.

Only thing I would be worried about is how long it had been sitting before you got it. Was it in the shipping bags?

motorsporttc
08-12-2010, 04:40 PM
it was actually being used, and sat around for a couple months in the garage before i picked it up off the guy.

This exhaust is legit. Its an old twin tip with 60mm piping. This part has long been discontinued.

The exhaust that Matej posted is the legal muffler which is 65mm. Unfortunately that is discontinued too.

The one that S14DB posted is the newest exhaust that is supposed to look real subtle/sleeper. That one is 75mm and available for s13 and s14. Its black with a polished tip.

And here is a teaser for Matej

Shit, I just looked up the specs on that exhaust. The piping diameter is 75mm which is 2.95276 inches... That's a 3" HKS exhaust, BRAND NEW, for $311 +tax with free shipping! What a deal! I might buy that for my SR20DE...

I too have a thing for "old school" stuff and things of quality. I am digging this exhaust, $150 is a steal for it in that condition, Congrats.
