View Full Version : Searched, but no luck: H.I.D in type X position lights?

I test fitted a set of H3 H.i.d's in my oem plastic type X position lights, and it made the enclosure hot, however it did not melt it, i did it for about 3minutes and am not sure whether it would get to a point where it melts my precious lights. I'd really like to run this setup and would like a second opinion on the longevity of it whether it would melt my lights or not.
(In case you guys are wondering which lights i'm talking about, it's the ones that go in the slot of my bumper where it shows no lights, and yes, it is the oem light and not a glass enclosure.)

Those are day driving lights but can be converted to be turn signals
why do you feel the need to have HIDs there?
It's bad enough retards put them in the H4 housings

I have my signals underneath, just not visible in the pic, and i want to put them there and tilt the light down towards the road instead of the h4 housing for the simple fact that it glares everywhere and is a hazard to others and looks crappy. I know i can do projectors, but besides that i personally think they'd look good in the driving lights*

Those enclosures are too small for HID.
It's stupid to have HID position lights anyways.
HID lights are for headlights, not parking lamps.
If you want not shitty H4 housings, spend money on a pair, and get Cibie or Hella.
Don't waste your money putting HID in position lights.

Thanks for the opinion guys. I'll be sure to post results whether they melt or not for those that would want this.

Its not a good idea cause they will melt, I seen HID's on a cheap H4 plastic head light housing and it melted the back side.

Although i've ghetto'd HIDs in all kinds of stuff before, i think perhaps several really bright LEDs would have the same effect and perhaps look better than HIDs in this case.

Which is what i'm now researching how to do...thanks for the idea, hopefully it's bright enough, or at least brighter then stock headlights.

I want to make people go blind every time I stop.
Why even take the chance of melting the lens? Just throw some LEDs in them.

This fellow used some bright LED's to transform the turn signals into fog lights.

Exactly, clean, clear and ... no melting
and it looks better when the signal lights and the driving lights are swapped

Yes, but if you pick them up locally, they're not worth the price... and you don't get the pleasure of saying "I made that".
