soo i drive a 96 s14 and gonna be driving back and forth between school and home, every weekend back and forth and its a 2 hour drive each trip
car has 167000 miles and mom doesnt trust the car making stressful trips back and forth.
i was just wondering what will it take to make a car run efficiently with high mileage, any precautions i should take to make it run good for these trips?
what motor work should be done to have it run good for these trips and such?
and would turbo cars benefit or no?
i live in ohio so winter trips are gonna be a pain as well any extra caution i should take during winter time as well??
thanks guys any help is much appreciated,

Do all your maintenance?? oil change, wireset, sparkplugs, tires, etc. There is no real way to be 100% sure unless you rebuild your motor. But you should know the condition of your vehicle if you drive it everyday anyway...
Basically, if you don't feel like you can make it, don't drive it. If you take care of everything and something breaks anyway, well what'd you expect? it's like 14 years old.

Fix any oil leaks.
Run Synthetic high mileage oil (Mobil 1)
Run a bottle of injector cleaner a couple of times
Replace:
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Belts
Water pump
Thermostat
Clutch fan if it's old
Radiator hoses
Some vaccum lines
Oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket
Just a bunch of little stuff, with my KA I did most of those things and ran premium gas and never had a problem, then I took it to a dirft event and spun a rod bearing... lol

Yea, pretty much do all of the basic stuff like Krimlin said.
I've been driving my car a whole hell of a lot, and I like to beat on it, its got like 172K right now and its running fine.

i used to daily a s13 with 190k miles on it, totally beat to shit and would drive it back and forth to long island at least once a week, its a good 3 and a half hour drive each way, never gave me any problems.

Yeah a full tune up is a good idea but also do your Pm on it and make sure you check under the hood from time to time my bro has around the same mileage as you and just keeps up on the tune ups uses synthetic oil all the time for his oil changes and his car has always been good to him.. good luck man

My s14 was a Turbo KA from 140-167k miles starting a 340whp and ending at 420whp...until it finally melted a piston, and that was because someone detailed the engine bay and didn't cover the distributor cap and rusted it.
My current 240 while all stock, has 140k miles and I drive it 100 miles 3 days a week. I have ZERO issues with it, i run a 10w30 synthetic high mileage blend, changed the fan clutch, changed the plugs and wires, and its a champ. i average 27mpg in it. I wouldn't worry about taking it on a road trip. but i have other cars for that.
If you're going to be driving in a lot of snow over the winter definetly invest in some studdless snow tires like blizzaks...rwd + snow = PITA

my car has close to 96 s14 has close to 180k miles and still runs like a champ! just make sure you keep a close eye on the maintenance. my 14 was very well maintained and i daily it everyday.
my 89 ka24e has 300,000 and still pulls hard!

167,000 miles isnt anywhere near high mileage IMO.

my s13 had 260,000 miles and ran hard till my water pump gasket broke, and shot all my coolent out and blew the headgasket in my car. But that could of easily been prevented if i just checked under my hood more often. so just watch ur motor and if u see something that looks off......it probley is lol.
