Ok, so i wanna get a boso exhaust, but i wanna clear some things up. i've been to a bunch of forums, and someone always says their not, and some people say they are. are they illegal or not??? And is their any website that has them made i can just order, or would i have to go get them custom made? and what shop in the bay area would do that? Thanks!!

the law works like this, if you have a modified exhaust (doesn't matter how quiet, etc) a cop can give you a ticket.

that said, depending on the cop it will be either repairable or non-repairable. If it is repairable you can get it signed off at a CHP by replacing with a stock exhaust or whatever. If it is a non-repairable, you have to get to a local ref and go to court showing that it passed and is legal

I think the key may be to drive an old ass car. I got pulled over like 20 times while i was daily-ing my stock corolla. I've been pulled over once in the combined year ive been daily-ing my Z - and the Z looks and sounds kinda illegal.

I second this opinion! Too many people want to look cool but can't drive their car at all. But in this case, he wouldn't even be looking very cool.

Have a purpose behind any mod you make. Weight the + and the - of making that move.

I mean seriously, do those pipes have any performance advantage? No! So, your gonna spend money to get tickets, not look cool, and have no actual hp gain.

And yes, CHP will have a field day with some giant pipes sticking out of the rear of your car which obstruct your view, obstruct the visability of your tail light, and may even violate the law that says you cant have anything hang out 12" past your bumper with out having a red rag attached to it.

CHP can ticket you if they think that you're violating noise ordinances, and they don't need a decibel meter to check on the spot. If you're well within the noise limit (95 db, I believe), then you can get it signed off at an official testing station.

Simply having an aftermarket exhaust is not in itself, illegal. That bulletin was posted on Apexi's website for quite a while.. not sure if it still is, because a LOT of people are misinformed about the law, officers INCLUDED.

it would depend on whether it interferes with your driving as well as other drivers, i.e. if your exhaust blocks your taillight/s, is obstructing your view, or i believe if it sticks out past your rear bumper it has to have some sort of red flag or light on it(don't quote me on that but i've always seen red flags on trucks with oversize wood or poles sticking out past the bumper)
