Hey all

The ignition switch is bad on my 240sx. the way i can tell:

If i try to start the car by cranking it over with the key, fuel floods the cylinders and it can't start

If I try to start the car by cranking it over by jumping the starter solenoid to the battery, it starts up as normal.

Now do I have to replace the entire ignition switch assembly? or can i just buy the ignition switch from a 240 in the pick n pull or something like that

so buy this:

or the whole deal:

Why did this lead you to conclude that the ignition switch is bad? What is the reasoning?

turning the car caused the engine to flood

Bypassing that step and going straight to the starter had the car start as normal, no flooding problems.

also, when I first discovered this problem, i talked to a local mechanic and he said that the switch goes bad on nissans sometimes and this sort of thing happens.

Sounds pretty odd honestly I've never heard of anything like this but it just seems to make sense based off how i'm starting the car

The ignition switch has 5 pins. Pull out the FSM and measure for continuity with the key in various positions according to the FSM.

Very rarely do I see Nissan ignition switches go bad. Hondas do.

it turns out that the switch was bad. I pulled one from a junked 240 and threw it on and the car started up as normal with the key. hooray
