auto help!!

i turned on my car & tryed to get it out of park(auto tranny)& i cant due to when i press the button to move the shifter it does not want to go in.can anyone suggest what could be the problem???...thanks

try wiggling your key, and pushing the shifter forward a bit while pressing the button.
