I have to bleed my lifters so I am going to upgrade my cams while I'm in there.

Right now im torn between the HKS Step 1 256 cams and the Brain Crower 264 cams.

I am currently running a GTI-R T28 (0.86 a/r turbine, journal bearing) with an upgraded GT28R compressor housing. I'm guessing it flows 35lb/min or so.

My turbo is already somewhat laggy being a large A/R journal bearing turbo (full boost at 4200ish) so I'm leaning towards the 256 cams, but I've heard that those are barely an improvement over stock and that I should just get the 264's. I am currently on stock injectors / ecu / mafs but I am planning to get 550cc in the future.

Any suggestions?

264's make a nice difference with the right tune and ive had NO problems with Brian Crower parts. Best bang for the buck. start saving up for a turbo.

if you click on my blog in my sig you can see my set up.

I run a t28 with Tomie 256's and i love the set up but i will soon be going to 270's because im going with a better turbo set up. 256's will be fine on stock retainers and springs. Are you runing rocker arm stoppers?

Don't bother with bryan crowers, consensus is junk....
Tomei or HKS 264.... 256 is marginally better.... 264 step 1s...

Not yet, but I am for sure going to order some when I decide what cams to buy.

I've heard both good and bad things about the crowers. Some people say they lost power, some say they gained 30whp (with a dyno chart) so thats partly why I'm having trouble deciding. A pair of BC cams is $269.99 so at that price its both tempting and worrying. Do you have any experience with the BC cams?

I've had BC's I gained 7hp and 10pounds of tq. Spooled a solid 600-700rpm later. Total waste of damn money.

I work with steve shadows on dyno's and overall BC's are straight junk... Their timing marks are always off (quality control) and need to be dialed in to make any power at all... Its a waste of money...

Tomei or HKS are drop in and make power consistently ALWAYS... Very high quality, good idle, don't need to be dialed in.... Seriously have you EVER heard Tomei or HKS complaints? NOPE cause there are 0.....

Seriously don't waste time, money, and (dyno time = time and money) = time^2 + money^2 which is a LOT in the end.... Just listen.... HKS or Tomei period....

Also don't bother with 256... just got 264's because the bang for the buck is best and its a good balance with most turbo's.....

Ive had bc264, then changed to hks 264 step 1's, then changed to jwt s3's. For my t28 I like the jwt s3's best. I may change to some jwt s4's to go with my .86 gt2871r when I get the car back on the road. I have a FULLY built and p&p head so I may go with something more lift.

Yeah for S3 and up, I think you need head components right?

Have you thought about Tomei 260? Something in between the 256 and the 264 and it still has a nice increase in lift as well.
