Just installed a "JDM" front brake light on my S13.

Got the idea from one of Keiichi Tsuchiya's drift videos.

Wasn't it used only in the videos to show the viewer when to brake? I don't think I've ever seen one fitted to a road car.

I also noticed a similar light being run in the windshields at FD Atlanta on the live stream, I assume for monitoring brake checking. Cool idea for competition, but super dumb, and potentially hazardous for use on the street.

Seems like they could easily bypass the light with a switch once the run begins. In theory that is.

the purpose of the red light on keichi's drift car wasnt because of the JDM hype... it was for the viewer to see where he steps on the brake to initiate the drift from the front angle.

It's actually illegal to have any red lights on the front of a vehicle, they must be behind the rear wheel, WA state law......

Red is for Safety personnel, i.e. fire trucks, ambulances, police

Blue is illegal in any spot, only used for law enforcement, i.e. cops

Green is illegal unless a volunteer firefighter.

And yes this light was simply for instructional purposes only, watch the Drift Bible again, a little closer ;) If I remember right they actually say that too......

Im not sure what WA laws are but in CA front of a car may only have white or yellow color in the front. maybe there not as strict there but it will make the police look your way a little more often. I do think its an interesting idea but i just dont think its realistic for daily driving.

I was implying that if he were doing some sort of racing where braking was critical that someone from the outside of the car could see when he tapped the brakes from the front of the car as well as the rear. It's not uncommon for people to watch someone's run then critique it afterwords.
