Check coilpacks. Subaru sound = 3 cyl.

I'm almost positive this has been answered before. Search.

make sure the F/I O-Rings arent leaking

or that. get a fuel pressure gauge too. best investment ever.

yeah last time my car sounded like an impreza and it was because coolant leaked onto the plugs.. ( not an S chassis though ) but same concept.. your only running on 3 cyls probably, maybe less =O

i checked the coil packs and are working fine. i put the injectors today it did it for a lil bit but now it seems to be gone? maybe an injector plug was a lil wet from when i cleaned the injectors with injector cleaner before putting them in :D ill keep updating if car keeps acting up :D hopefully it doesn't

I you just put them in and it started its most likely a o lower o-ring that didnt seat right.

where can i check for grounds?

Ok, lets start over.

Your car sounds like a Subaru... so I'm guessing you mean a tractor/tank.

As other have said, that means it's only firing on three and not all four cylinders.

First thing, figure out which one is not firing. Do this by discounting one coilpack at a time and firing the car up. See if the sound changes. If you discount one that is working, it will sound worse. If you discount the one that is not working it will sound the same.

Once you find out which one it is... then you can test the pack. Swap that pack with out that is working (you should know the other three are working from the previous test). If that cylender now starts working and the other one is not... you found the problem. If nothing changed, all your packs are good.

Spark test. stick a screw driver into the coil pack and position it so the screwdriver is close to bare metal, stand back and have a friend start the car, watch for sparks.. if you see sparks, your coilpack is working and receiving spark.

If you don't have sparks... you have the problem I have right now, which is wiring, ecu or ignitor.

If you have spark, check the spark plug... is it bad? change it out ($1.50, might as well change them all).

If you have spark, and the plugs are good... check the fuel!

Do you smell or see fuel? If so.. well durh that is a problem. If not, unplug the injector wire and plug it into a spare injector... fire the car, does the spare pulse?

If you don't have a spare, prepare to make a mess as you swap around the injectors on your car, swap two... no change means your injectors are good, if the bad cylinder is now firing and the good one is not... you have a bad injector.

So if you have spark and you are getting fuel... congratulations, your fucked. Compression test the engine, check coolant levels and begin to fear the worst as your problems are now inside the actual engine.

maybe you have some crusty wiring or connectors that has to be fixed. i've seen this on older cars plenty.
if you checked everything reasonable, the problem comes and goes, check the obvious before you put money into parts that might not need to be swapped immediately.
check stuff that dont cost money then go from there.
look back at any add on electronics that might have been installed or uninstalled.
items repaired

when you find the culprit you'll be like "FUCK i cant believe this was it!"

dont let it drag on too long or it may become a big problem.

I knew some guy that had an accord and blew the motor. swapped the engine and drove around for a few weeks when he started to notice that the power wasnt that smooth. lazy ass guy didn check anything a week later his motor blew. #3 was totally gone.
when he took a look the injector plug was cracked and had come loose. #3 leaned out and gone!

dont want to scare you but you should be worried until you find out what it is.

when my car sounded like a subaru, it was because the exhaust valve in the 4th cylinder wasn't creating a proper seal and the rings were gone, do a compression and or leakdown test

check for fuel and sparks. Running with no fuel can lead to burnt valves or valve seals! So don't rev up your engine until you solve your problem

this problem has been fixed :D it was the wiring..the coil pack harness was bad aswell thanks everyone for your help

it could be a rocker arm broke and a valve isnt opening. that will make the STI sound and explaine the no power part.

Just swap a EJ257 with front mount then your problem is fixed. Suppose to sound like that. =)

thats what i said. Something with one of the cylinders not operating properly.
