So I just finished a SR swap.... and whadda know my rear calipers seize up.. so I'm broke as a joke, and can't drive safely without cashin my pennies in.

Anyways, ya, just like everyone else I would like a 300zx front brake upgrade at some point in time..BUT that ain't gonna happen anytime soon, and it's the rears I have to worry about now. I've already purchased some KVR pads, but need calipers rebuilt, and rotors. Now what do most ppl who have 300zx front conversions, have on the back?? Do most ppl just go stock back there? If I'm gonna spend money on doing the whole back brakes, its usually not that much more to go with something decent right? Any recommendations on Rotors at least? or ones to stay away from, cause I see all sorts of cheap ones... And if it IS possible to get bigger rotors, would the stock calipers still work??

Thanks,

Most people stay stock in the rear.

Upgrading the rear without the front could lead to a really unsafe braking setup! Don't do it. Locking up the rear brakes before the fronts on hard braking can lead to a spin.

Rotors - stock type, blank rotors. Anything else is a waste of money. Pick your favorite brand, Brembo makes rotors for the stock application that are excellent quality. There aren't any true rear rotor upgrades (i.e. an increase in rear rotor size) that keep the stock calipers. Just bling-bling slotted/drilled crapola.

just a heads up....
my friend has:
300ZX TT aluminum front calipers
stock rear calipers
Brembo slotted/dimpled zinc coated front & rear rotors
Axxis metal master pads f & r
Goodrich stainless steel brake lines f & r
ATE Super Blue brake fluid

I have:
Q45 brakes all around
z32 17/16" MC
Raybestos brake pads
OEM rotors

My braking is better. It might be the MC, or the brake balance. All we know is... it's way too easy to lock his fronts, while it's much easier to modulate the brakes on my car.

What master cylinder is your friend using? That's usually the kicker whien it comes to a Z32 front/stock rear setup. Also, is his car an S13 or S14? The difference in rear piston size matters IMO.

Both cars are KAt S14's. He's got the stock 7/8 MC with the 15/16" waiting to go in...

MC plays the biggest role I think, but then, some people complain that the larger MC with stock rear brakes screws things up even more.

Yep, I have the 1 1/16 MC and it was only useful when I had the front and rear brake setup on my S13.

what do you guys think about running the Q45 rear brakes and 300zx front brakes. Is the Q45 rear brake a drum style e-brake or is it like the stock ones? Maybe it would be easier for dephrag to put in q45 brakes in the rear with stock front brakes for a while?
