Ok, my car hasn't been turned on for almost 3 months and I think I need should manually crank it a few times before turning it on. Is there any way to do this other than by turning the clutch? Can I turn the crank pulley without havind to take anything off? And can I turn it by hand?

Thanks

if u take the motor fan off u can turn the motor over with a 1/2" breaker bar or 1/2" rachet...or pull the car and put it in 2nd and drop the clutch....

What are your reasons for wanting to crank the engine over by hand before actually starting it? It 's probably worse to do that than actually starting it. (IMO)

Well, it's been sitting there for 3 months so I figure I need to lubricate it some before starting it.

If it's really not necessary at all then I won't though.

disconnect the fuel pump and start cranking... might want to have the battery connected to a battery on another running car just in case.

As for necessity, your car will only do very few rpms until oil gets and soaks through everything. So the chance of damaging the engine is really small.

No oil will be circulating through the engine going that slow and will cause more damage that the brief instant before firing up.

u sure about that?

i have those see through hoses that tap into the oil line for my oil gauges.... when i cranked several times without starting the car, the oil made it there..

Well, I can't see the harm in cranking it. If I can crank it by hand, it can't be turning the parts fast enough to put any wear on them.

I can understand that, but you will also be turning the engine very slow. More than likly you wont ciculate any oil at all and what you do circulate wont make that much of a difference. Considering that it will take about 3 seconds fore oil to circulate and get where it needs to be once stated. If you really want to feel better about stating it, my sggestion is to follow what was posted above. Disconnect the fuel pump, crank her a bit then hook up the fuel pump and start her.

Also if its been that long, why not change the oil? That way youll at least have some new fresh oil dripping down through the head and in this case I would put a bit in the oil filter to to help get it circulating.

At any rate what I would do, just go start the car and not worry about it. But that me and I got a KA that Im to worried about. :D

U can also prime the engine by disconnecting the spark plugs from the coil pack. This seems a lot easier than disconnecting the fuel pump. Just do that and then try starting it a few times for 2 seconds each time. And then u will have oil in your engine. So then just reconnect the spark plugs and your set. And i also do suggest changing your oil. If i am wrong please correct me. thanks
