View Full Version : Towing with the 240SX

Here is my situation:

I got a perfectly good Toyota that is 650 miles away from here. I have three options:

1. Find someone willing to ride up with me and drive it back (I would have to insure it and put a tag on it)

2. Fly up and drive it back.

3. Get a towbar and pull it all the way back with my 240SX>

The car weighs 2400 lbs and if I towed it, it would be front on dolly and back tires rolling.

I don't even know if anyone makes a hitch for our cars...

Anyone ever towed anything that far with their 240SX?

I was thinking of just doing 60 in 4th gear. Their is only one place with some pretty good hills.

????

I would rather not liscense it and insure it right now..

I have offered it for sale but no one yet is willing to pay for my drive and make the transaction. If I get it here, I can fix it up some. It is a 3TC engine RWD Corolla, 81.

you can get car specific hitches from u-haul or similar business. i highly doubt one is made for 240sx, if there is, i doubt you will find it when you need it. if you had a ka24e truck cam laying around you could swap that in for some more low end grunt, seriously you could pull a ford diesel out of a ditch with that. best bet is to find a friend and buy a 3 day trip permit

PM me, I need to get that car down here. A ton of people want it. Someone put an SRDET in one once and it is good enough that I want to get it down here to at least sell it or fix it up. It would be cool to have it while I am doing mods on my car. Seems everytime I want to do something "deep" to my car, I run out of time and can't even start, because I got to have it to go to work on Monday.

I hope it is cheap enough..I got some expendatures coming up, namely a 500 dollar electric bill, rent and car insurance again. That ruins the whole months checks.

PM me with price and shipping to 33401.

At the very least, I get the car down here, fall back in love with it (Had it since it was a baby..and it still has less than 70K miles on it) and learn bodywork (some rust) and make a nice one of it.

It was always a good running car. Not a drift machine, and very soft comfortable suspention..but not many left..especially that few miles.

I pulled an F250 for 60 miles with IT once..

i need a tow hitch also... saw one once for like $200 for the S14. anyone know the company that makes it or where to get it?? I had planned on making my own, but now I'm getting lazy. I've got 3 weeks to get one on, and buy a small trailer, cause fitting 4 racing tires and a bunch of tools in an S14 isn't a pretty site... even if I'm allowed to take the rear seat out for a bit more room....

Last year I rented a 2002 F150 from Triangle Rent-A-Car. It was like $50.00 for unlimited mileage (with like $200 deposit on CC). I noticed that the truck was pre-wired for a trailer and had a female hitch slot. You can rent these 2 wheeled tow dollies from Uhaul or Penske, the kind 2 wheels get propped up on. They are probably about $50 also. I'd check that out unless you wanna take a Greyhound bus to the car.... along with a liscense plate (from your other car), 4 screws, and a screw driver. Just hope it runs tho....and dont speed.
